Well, this summer has been a frustrating one deer hunting wise thus far. Had some camera problems with my older crap Wildviews and Moultries, and eventually gave up on them and put them in a box in the top of my closet. FINALLY got the beans planted at the farm I picked back up for this year, and I LOVE the potential I am seeing out here, just as I remember it from 2 years ago, only with 45 acres of beans now! Enjoy, cameras were out for a whopping 9 days, I just couldn't wait any longer to check. First pic of the cam, a few hours after I set it. Few Doe pictures then BAM, shooter (for me anyway ). I set it directly on a trail where they enter the woods for some close shots, and it panned out perfectly. Is it spring yet? Better watch his back come January! 1.5 with great potential IMO, also entered the woods on that trail touching the camera tree. Notice the turkey about 15 yards behind him? Also, notice how he is starting some junk in the second pic? Be interested to see if that growth produces something cool in a few years. And the other cam, didn't have near as much from across the farm (as I expected), but it did catch a great set of 2.5s traveling together, a lot of morning action which surprised me. 5 point missing a brow, but shaping up nicely to be a great buck in a few years. I was pleased with last weeks haul, and excited to regain access to this piece! Hopefully when September rolls closer, I can develop a pattern on that shooter (for me) entering/leaving the beans.
Those are some awesome bucks Embry, and good luck hunting them this year..... also how do you like that DLC covert???
No camera will be perfect, but I sure LOVE these. I like the Covert II better than the SG550, but both are great. These photos are mixed from both models out there.
You won't find a lot of differences. The bushnell has the remote built in, but also has a narrower PIR. Good for bait stations, but (IMO) bad for trail pics which is how I use my cams in most instances. Both are good cams for the money! Since I have a few of the Coverts and each come with a remote, I have one stashed literally everywhere. In my hunting pack, in my truck, in my room, etc so that forgetting it would be impossible. That said, once you program it and put it in the woods, the remote is NOT needed to swap cards and check for pics anyway, the remote only comes into play when you want to change settings in the future such as video to pictures or something. I know the Covert crew personally and really like the guys behind the company, which is the main reason I like this one better. I've never dealt with Bushnell so I can't say whether they are great with customers or not (assuming they are), but I KNOW Covert is great with customers.
Thanks a lot Embry all this info has helped a bunch, I use most of my cameras on trails also so the covert II sounds like it is in the lead right now.....now I just have to convince myself to buy it
