Congrats, way to seal the deal! What I find amazing, on your quest for this buck when you were seeing him, not sure of the total timeframe in days? But not once, was it mentioned that he was with a doe or hounding any? Other than the two that happened by, and he decided to follow? One would think, at this time of the year, there would of been some sightings of him, with or hounding does? Which takes me to 2 Lunger, statement, that he was that patternable at this time of the year? Makes one believe, the rutting action at this point was pretty much over? As many reports of lock down, in this bucks case, almost as if he was in the post rut resting, stage, with a pattern?
No suprises here....we knew you were gonna get him! I think you may have taught us just how valuable it can be to know a mature bucks exact bedding area.
Thanks everyone for the kind words.... it is greatly appreciated! I'm still sitting back thinking about what unfolded this past week. A really bizarre week with this guy. One more day to try to put a doe on the ground before my attention turns 100% on getting my kid his first deer. Predator: thanks for knowing I was going to get him because i didn't think I had a chance in hell lol. And yes this puts a whole new perspective on a bucks exact bedding area for me. Something I've always considered but will pay a lot more attention to in the future. Limbhanger: Something I've given a lot of thought to during and since I killed him. He seemed to be on a different schedule. A loner or something. Really strange IMO but I'm not arguing about it. Preacher: It was fun sharing it with you bro. Keep in touch the rest of the season. We should hook up next year (or this) and hunt. Kodiak: I'm really hoping he doesn't get up and walk away this time lmao. Rickmur: Yeah the property is adjacent to the golf course. We don't have them running down the fairways here lol but the land that borders it is pretty good chunk. Germ: I thought about your battle with Mr. mass. They may be twins. GMMAT: I was 15 lbs. bigger in October. Time to put on some beef again. xlr8n and fletch (and everyone else thinking this): Yeah I was a little crazy for sitting there all day watching this guy twice. I figured it was my best chance with such little time left and didn't want him to worry about anything around him especially knowing i exist. Maybe it paid off maybe it didn't. Funny thing is.... this last encounter I didn't make a noise to him. No grunt, bleat, rattle .. nothing. I figured he's heard enough of me. Who knows? Everyone else......... thanks again much appreciated. I know of at least one more around that I'll be hunting after my kid puts a deer down and I pick the bow up again. Tough fending off the orange army, but you never know. good luck to everyone the rest of the season
Congrats on your great hunt! I know how big those deer get around golf coarses w/ little pressure. I only wish I could hunt on mine. Congrats again.
I KNEW you were gonna get it done!!! Sometimes, ya just got a feelin'!! :D Man, big-time congrats bro!!! He's awesome and it's gonna be super-special to have him mounted and to forever be able to recall all your encounters with him... much more so than if he'd just rolled in on you and you'd shot him three seconds after you first laid eyes on him.
This thread was getting me in trouble at work today as I was trying to read it on my phone. You deserve that buck...congrats, and way to stay after it!
What a buck! And one you have a history with. It doesn't get any better than that :D Major congrats, NY!
nice deer and amazing story and the jumping of the tree almost every hunter wishes they could do that once in their hunting careers
lol there is nothing unpressured about the woods around the golf course. I've seen about 4 deer on the actual golf course in 15 years. Most of the landowners land is a block over (with a lot of pressure). A small portion of it butts up to the golf course. I just take all the deer I get over there. The clubhouse turns into the hunting lodge and the workshop turns into the butcher shop. thank you and yes
BIG CONGRATS NYB Man what a story and kudos to you for hunting as hard as you did you deserve than one man!!
