Today was our archery opener, what a feeling to have the chilly weather! Yesterday was in the 80's and humid and today was 41 at sunrise and never got above 60. I was close to my setups (5 stands and a climber) on my lease, as I had planned which stand to hunt the first day. Of course on my way back to my truck I bump a wallhanger from 10 yards. The only bad thing was I had a stand that was 25 ft from where he was bedding....maybe shoulda had him this year! I got the new Flambeau Master Boss Decoy and I believe it the closest thing to a great decoy, he got alot of attention! I saw plenty of deer but wasnt going to push a hard shot on the first day. They simply never got a good yardage shot, and the only shot I did have was when he was facing me trying to wind me. I started to make sure I have all my stands hooked up with harnesses and hope that my fellow hunters are doing the same, for their families and loved ones. I was one who never really cared, but I would rather hunt the rest of my life rather than being in a wheelchair or worse! I hope everyone enjoyed or will enjoy a first day like I did, regardless of letting a few get by. It helped me pattern where they were going and where they went, and where NOT to go! Happy safe hunting guys!
Archery opener is always an invigorating day! Everyone is so pumped. Here in texas it was nice and cool this morning; perfect weather for hunting, but then it got really hot during the day I wish it would have stayed cool so the hunting would have been enjoyable throughout the whole day! Congrats on your eventful sit with lots of scouting. Sounds like good things are headed your way with all those deer! keep us updated on all your kills
