This is a bow I have been trying to finish for some time. Its made from a bamboo pole, a piece of ipe decking, and an osage log Rowell brought me back in the fall. Yep Rowell, this is from that wood you brought that had been eat up by ants. The bow is bamboo backed, ipe/osage core, and ipe belly. 67" ntn 55lbs @ 28" with antler tips. I was shooting for 65Lbs at 28" but had some tiller issues. Had to thin up the limbs a little more than I wanted due to a twist issue. Now that it is done, I think I like the thinner limbs and the lighter weight. I shot it about 100 times to break it in, and it is one of those bows you can shoot all day. Now if I can find time to tune some arrows to it and get to know it. I might try to tune it while at Rowell's this weekend. All I got to do today is to make a string and take some pictures. Ive been moving my shop to a new place all day as you can tell by my haggard apperance. I guess this will be the last bow made in this old shop. Damn, Im so sick of moving. Two more house holds left. ARrrrggggg. Russ, I got you bow tillered yesterday. Ill send it tomorrow.
The ants can't do damage and you not salvage something!New shop new bows...evolution.If I ever move I'm selling everything but dog, guns, and bows!:d You did do some great work with ant eaten wood, makes me wonder what you will get out of the last load I brought you.
Maybe you can cut some of the willow growing and shave some arrows out of it,there plenty of straight green willow growing in our range!
Thanks all. I had a chance to finally shot this bow for the first time. I went out to Rowell's place to sling arrows at a three-D range. I had no arrows tuned to it but had a good time slinging arrows out of it. I liked the way it shot, a lot. Cant wait to get her all set up. Did get a chance to get her bloody. We jumped 4 rabbits, Rowell shot one and I shot the other three.
Kent, the bow looks great, but are those your legs or are you riding a chicken? (I'll have to ask Rowel)
Riding a chicken ? How dare you. My legs are much longer than a chickens. Try ridding a ostrige.:d Rowell, That Pup, as you say, would be considered a horse in most countires.
that is awesome... I was in BPS the other day for fletching gear and ran a across a guy getting stuff for a couple staves he'd just cut and was letting dry... was talkin to him a little and this was his first attempt at it... I've gotta talk to my dad, he's got all the wood working tools, i'm gonna see what he can do with one... maybe we could build it together...
