I decided I would post this here instead of on the bow hunting talk since it wasn't shot with a bow. I shot this buck on the evening of December 3rd. I wasn't having any luck with my bow to this point. My parents bought 156 acres about 45 minutes from where I live here in Kansas. The property closed at the end of November so this was my first chance to hunt it. Rifle season opened Dec 1st, and on the evening of the 3rd I was going to take my girlfriend out to the new property. I decided I would take my gun along too. I got her sat down and then I walked on down and set up. We both were sitting on the edge of a cut bean field with heavy timber on the other side. The deer started to come out into the field about an hour before sundown. I shot this buck a few minutes before last light, It was now or never cause he was on the move. I Put a good shot on him, he gave me a broadside shot about 75 yards out. I walked down to where my girlfriend was and we went to look for blood where the shot was, just as we find blood my flashlight gives out. So we went to the little gas station in town and bought a couple flash lights, and went back out to find my buck. We got on a blood trail and found him about 70 yards from the shot. This is my first buck ever and wish I could of got him with my bow but I'm not disappointed. He wasn't quite what I thought but I'm pleased with him. Hopefully I can get me a couple does down with the bow before the season is over. It was awesome to have my girlfriend there to experience it with me, and to shoot a buck the first time out on our new property. I can't wait to get to work and do some management on this place for next season.
