Finally decided that I'll make the call tonight the next time I catch the infomercial! :d I find myself surfing channels late at night just looking for it these days, getting more and more inspired to take the plunge! I should have taken my "before" pic a month or so ago though, as I had probably let myself get in the worst shape of my life. Got fed up with it and I've already changed my eating habits 180 degrees since then, starting off with a protein shake in the morning before I leave the house every day, a protein bar around 10 or 10:30, a can of tuna around noonish, and another protein bar around 1:30 or 2. My wife always has a good meal prepared for us around 5:30 or so, and I've been supplementing with multivitamins as well. I've already made great strides to returning back to my former self, coupling the nutrition plan with inclined pushups off the coffee table downstairs mixed in with some bench pressing and barbell curls. But... I've reached this point several times before where I start getting the chest bigger than the waist again and hit that proverbial plateau they speak of on P90X. This time I'm gonna bust through it and see how far I can take it. Anyone wanna join me on my venture?
Nah... Have fun!! Really, my senior year I weighed in at around 230... I never want to be that big again... I now fluctuate in the upper 190's and I feel pretty good.I'd like to see the 180's again sometime in the future. And I'd love to start carving some abs and pecks, I even have the time... Lazy?
Greg go checkout the website crossfit.com. All you need is pull up bar and you can do 80% of the daily workouts. There is a new workout posted each day and they are centered around a high intensity 20 minute workout. Several of us have been doing it for several months and love it. If my diet was half of what yours currently is, I'd be lean at this point. Crossfit is alot like P90X except it's free. PM me if you wanna talk.
I do as I am back up to 243lbs and this is not good for being 6'. My game plan is to be on a 1500 calorie intake per day. As for the P90X I will do a google and see what this is. T
Just ordered a rowing shell today. At least a little of the sitting on my ass in a boat this year will have some cardio involved in it instead of carbo (as in beer). I hate that first hunt of the season when I'm half way up the mountain cursing myself for not staying in better shape over the summer.
Tony, Here's what you'll typically find when Googling for reviews of P90X... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7398247945300098374 It's a true kick-butt program that is not for the weak-minded who aren't serious about whipping themselves into shape. But if you are, it looks to be freakin' awesome. I'll let you know in 90 days. :d
Greg, I really haven't heard much negative about P90X. I hear the results will come sooner if you stick to the diet along with the workout routines. Another thing is, all of the supplements can be bought elsewhere, don't sink a ton of money into their supplements and after workout junk. Please let me know how this works out for you. My wife keeps on hounding me about going to the gym, but it just isn't for me. My weight isn't the problem, it is the high cholesterol and cardio I am more concerned about. For her, she struggles with not having anyone to go to the gym. I figure, if we start sometime next fall after harvest, we would have all winter to bust ourselves back into shape. It is just hard when I am working to take the time to workout. Good luck buddy. I know your work ethic and if you are dead set on busting your tail, I know you'll make the 90 days.
Greg your not going to believe it, but i had the # wrote down three days ago :d , had the phone in hand but backed out :d I have been wanting to try that to, but im not sure it will work with my 12 hour schedule. Keep in mind that i only work either 3 or 4 days in a row before time off though. and i get 8 days off to once a month. I have also turned my life around from 2 years ago, through Diet and the Gym. I weighed in at 230# and im current riding at 193# and made alot of gains. I still have a little loose flab that i want so bad to get rid of, and p90x looks like it might be the answer. I just wonder if i can still fit in some of my other lifting with it. Please let me know how it goes,,,I may still pull the trigger myself. It is just amazing the way i feel anymore, and the things i can do that most guys my age I work with, cant even begin to. Im 43 but feel much younger. good luck, maby if i pull the trigger we can keep on each other A$$ for motivation :d
Crick, that'd be awesome if you wanna do it together; just let me know. I thought about buying cheaper copies off e-bay or even burning a friend's copy, but I want the books and -- more importantly -- I want access to the online forums and the people who start up every week with you. I think it'd be extremely motivating and compelling to hang with a like-minded group which starts off at the same time; it'd be even cooler to do it with you. Dave, yeah... I was thinking the same thing about the supplementation and all. I buy all my whey protein and bars at Sam's Club, and I'm really happy with the prices and ingredients -- as well as the taste. I couldn't do what I've been doing even this far if I wasn't happy with the taste. So I'll save a ton over the "company-pushed" stuff by doing that in conjunction with their plan. I'm about to put our little guy down, and after that I'll start surfing channels again, on the prowl!
A LOT of industry experts believe that consuming more than 30 - 40 grams of protein at once won't allow the body to metabolize it, so no... I don't want to just consume a higher dosage in the AM; I'd rather spread it out over the course of the day. And I'm already at 1,130 calories before eating my evening meal, so I'm right where I want to be. I may add another protein shake around 8 or so in the PM to help my body recover and refuel once I begin the program. That'll give me 1,480 calories and another 33 grams of protein as well, bringing my daily total to 156 not counting what's in my wife's meal.
Yep, that's about where I'll be... To maintain given my BMI, I need to be around 2,600 calories a day. With the rigorous program added in, I'll be just about right. On average, cutting 500 calories will result in losing a pound per week. Throw in the muscle confusion principle and all the cardio, and I'm excited to see what I'm going to look like on the other side of 90 days!
At least you fat bodies have weight to shape! I am 6', and 155 - 158. Have never been able to gain any weight. Except for the 15lbs the two months after I got out of the Marines... Go figure. But even that went somewhere else.
Greg, my partner at work got that last yr around Nov? He said he could feel a difference. I don't know if he did any b-4/after pics, but he says he's stronger. He did say that some of the work outs are intense. I might look at doing that my self. I am just starting to get back into shape this yr for my elk trip out to Idaho. I'm starting running this sat, and hope to get back to my 6 mile runs like i used to do. let me know what you think of it, when you get started. Might be just the inspiration i need to take a step over the line.
Yeah, I'm not necessarily interested in getting stronger (though I won't turn down any strength gains I make) as I've lifted on and off since midway through college. I've got a 44" chest, and considering I'm 5'10 don't think that's too bad. I've certainly inherited my Dad's genetics of not having hardly an ounce of fat on my chest, arms or legs but I'm hoping this program will finally give me the incentive to push through and get my stomach where it needs to be. I'm at a 34" waist, and I'd really like to keep my chest the same size and shrink the waist down to about a 32 or even a 31 if I could just get absolutely ripped. That may be pushing it though and I'd certainly be happy with a 32 again. Like a lot of former athletes, I had the pleasure of an exttreme high-cardio regimen most of my life (for me, it was tennis 5 hours a day for almost six years straight)but then later when all that activity died off, unfortunately the caloric intake didn't correspondingly drop with it. Ending up in outside sales certainly didn't help over the years either, with lots of meals on the road and entertaining customers. I'm going to start using it to my advantage these days though by eating my bars and cans of tuna while I'm driving and maybe even get home a bit earlier by not having a full-blown lunch hour somewhere during the day.
Greg would you like to have a fat challange? I have routine I am going to give a try after doing my own research using the net. Pick a day to start and end for this competition but to carry on being healthy for life. I believe a little competition is always good. Jeff I have used bodybuilding.com and love it. T
Good luck, Greg! I'm in the same boat as MNKK. I workout regularly (6 days a week...3days lifting, 3 days cardio), and I try to eat a ton of lean carbs, protein, and limit the sugars and non animal based fats. I can't gain much weight at all. All I get is less body fat. I've never been fat, but I've never been able to build a ton of weight either (lean muscle). I'm fit, but I would like to have an extra 10lbs. I will be starting back on protein shakes soon, they are a nice supplement (not substitute) for me. I already did back/shoulders today. Now I'm out the door to split wood:D
Tony, You just let me know what I need to do and we'll go after it together... That's pretty much the point of this whole thread, to see if any of my bowhunting buddies wanted to take the plunge with me and do something together. As I mentioned earlier, my only regret so far is that I didn't take my "before" pics about a month ago, as I've probably already lost an inch off my waist -- I was starting to be a "tight" 34 -- and started bulking my shoulders and chest up again. And I REALLY need the stretching portions of this program; I had a coach who didn't give a crap about stretching early on in my career, and I developed some bad habits over the years of never stretching... nothing like playing five solid hours of tennis going all-out and then going straight home and sitting in an air-conditioned house to tighten up the old muscles! These days, I have to spend a good amount of time stretching first just to bend down and touch my toes.
