Got off work and decided to hit a GIANT swamp.. many islands and seas of cattail. Just under an hour in and I saw this one. About 55" in size... old.. but still a good find. Headed for home right after.. as I fell through some ice.. Also ran into a dead forkie while heading back.
Nice find indeed. Have you ever hunted this spot for sheds before?? just curious if you missed it last season.
Na BC never hit it before. Wanted to.. but couldn't. This shed sat on an island waaaaaaaayyyy out in this swamp. Island was probably only 7 acres in size.. and once it thaws all around it... you never gettin' in there. Gonna try and hit it again possibly with JZ later this month when some of the bucks have started falling in good numbers.. but thats totally dependant on weather. If it gets too warm.. no way I'm going in waist deep in cold water to some of these islands.
Congrats on the first one Mike! My first shed hunt will be in IL down on the property just before the IL Deer Classic.
....cough....wimp....cough :d :d Congrats on getting the first one of the year, that one for me is always the hardest, once I find that first one I remember that I didn't forget what to look for, it is just a matter of getting out and putting the miles down....
Hey congrats. Wish I could go out this weekend, but real busy. It's supposed to warm up and rain, which will open up the ground from the snow.
On the board, nice job! This snow has been brutal! I picked up 6 early, than went on a month drought. I finally broke it this morning with an old heavy 4pt. I was complaining though! Now that you've broken the ice, it's time to start scooping them up!
Congrats Sir Duke!! I see this first shed as a downward spiral into piles of shed antlers. Way to go man. I think I'm gonna be heading out something this weekend. Yesterday got postponed for various reasons. I am itching to get in some walking and find some sheds.
I am wimping out of this one. While I have waded in me skinnies before just to find a shed.. this walk would take me through (at the narrowest crossing) like 200 yards of cold ice.. and pockets of muck.. dead trees etc. Trust me Wi.. I was doubting I could find one again. Even ran up to this shed after spotting it like 15 yrds out.. just to make sure I was looking at an antler. With the 4 points sticking through 5" of snow.. it was clear to me.:d
