Kansas gun season is open and with that comes a flood of hunters to our area. I'd been gone for 12 days for thanksgiving and when I returned home to hunt and check trail cameras I find some yay-hoo from Wichita sitting over my food plot in his ground blind. He argued that he was hunting public ground because he was "outside of the fenced in pasture." I sternly corrected him and let him know that our family owns everything there within a half mile radius. He left but stated "he'd be back to hunt again." I advised against that as next time fish and game would be involved. After giving him the boot, I'm left with a sense of uncertainty as to whether or not he'll be back this weekend. Any of you guys ever kick a trespasser off your land only to have them return again? Oh and on top of that I find both my trail cams in that area turned off and SD cards stolen. He said "I don't know about any trail cameras or sd cards, I wouldn't steal anything." Sure thing pal, the camera is staring you in the face 30 yards from your blind and they just all of a sudden vanished. You wouldn't steal anything, but you would trespass on to someone's land and hunt over their food plot. After dealing with this guy I can see why some people have negative thoughts towards hunters.
They never return because I have a zero tolerance policy. I prosecute everyone for a $276 lesson in map reading and being an a##clown.
Just me, I would've prosecuted. He knows he was trespassing. That's the only way that people learn, especially guys that say "I'll be back to hunt again". What a jackass.
Should not be to hard to find where he is parking,:p and send the law to meet him there or call a friends tow truck and have it towed to a hunting spot on the rivers edge....
I had to call the sheriff on two different guys from Mississippi and Georgia. They both got tickets bc I also called my local game warden. one of the idiots was just sitting on a bucket next to a tree trying to bow hunt.
We have kicked one guy out 4 times. The 3rd time he actually shot at us. We had the police and everyone there. He actually came back last week during gun season. We have gotten pictures of him and have a very convincing case in court. The next time he comes back he will be going to jail.
I am a patient guy... I hate posted by law... that being said. You asked him to leave and he was uncooperative and threatened to return, time to call authorities.
I would have call the law right then. Barely across your line and apologizing that he was...maybe he gets a warning. Way across the line and then arguing with me that I'm wrong about my land...he's getting a ticket right then. I bet he'll be back. I hope not for your sake. I hate loser trespassers.
I don't know how big/tough you are, but that guy needs an *** kicking! Sometimes that's the only way a person learns a lesson.
Luckily the people I have found on my property seemed to have listened to my requests. I told them no hunting on my property but if they want to ride 4 wheelers when no trucks are in the drive they can because I have no way to stop them when I am not there. My cameras have not caught anyone else on camera. My property had not been used for multiple years by the previous owners so they had no way of knowing that the property had changed hands. The previous owner was not a hunter and allowed everyone to ride/roam the property so I can't blame them. If I were you I would be very cautious of someone being so bold as to say that they will be back again. I would make sure to have your camcorder or phone ready to take video/audio in case he does show back up. I would prosecute in the fullest. As other said, if someone shoots at me, they better not miss.
I have a local reputation as a hard@$$ SOB after running off trespassers and calling local law and fish and game on spotlighters and roadhunters. I eventually had a bunch of signs made declaring property under continuous video survalence and that helped a lot but I still have knuckleheads driving the roads around the properties all season long. You know darn well if they see a big buck standing near the road they are going to shoot it and try to get out of there before getting caught. Most of the deer are educated enough to not hang around the roads here at this point but a few still get nailed. SOmeone this past MO season shot a buck and a doe 3/4 mile south of my house....in the road and just left them laying in the road. They cut the antlers off the little 6 point buck (Had seen him there several times and tried to spook him) but beyond that left them laying in the road to spoil and coyotes and dogs to eat...I'm furious over that but local warden didn't do squat and I have yet to see him driving around over here. I hope that little SOB comes back to your property and gets arrested and prosecuted!
If you got his license plate and/or name, go down and get him trespassed from your property. Therefore, not only can a conservation officer take action if he is on your property, but a law enforcement officer can arrest him if he even touches foot on your property, hunting or not. I would do it.
Our property is posted, and if you are on it without permission, you are going to jail. Our trespasser tolerance level is zero, after putting up with repeat offenders for many years. Once the word gets out that you aren't playin'.........
