Hey guys quick question for you hunters that film your hunts. This year I decided im taking my camera out into the field and do a small webshow with a friend or two. My question to you guys is what do you do about the lights on the camera. When the camera is on and taping the screen lights up as well as the "on" light on top. Do you guys cover those lights not to alert the deer or use any other methods? Or doesnt it seem to effect them at all? It would only be visible in low light situations, but thats when most of the deer movement is happening. Thanks guys
Most cameras will allow you to turn the tally light (red light that shows up when you're recording) off if you want to. I've never seen a need for it personally. If a deer is looking up at me intently enough to see that little tiny light I'm probably screwed anyways. :D Same with the viewfinder - since it's pointed away from the deer and towards you it's never been an issue. What I've found interesting over the years of filming is that most of the deer movement and kills on film haven't been during low light conditions. I would say less than 10% are really during what many people consider to be "prime time". Sure, it happens every now and again but by and large there's plenty of light for filming when we're shooting deer.
I would agree, by the time those lights on the camera show up, your out of shooting light on the camera. Meaning the recording is too dark to film the shot anyway.
