Any advantage having one of these over just a normal tripod? And is it a big enough advantage to make it worth me trying to build one?

    Another design...

It would help to get the tripod out of the way. I would say if you can build it without much cost try it. I am sure you can find a use for it else they probably would not have marketed it but you never know. If you build one post pics once you are done please.

Here's a great solution you can get if you have a Muddy Camera Arm, adapts your existing tripod.
    Tripod Adapter for Muddy Arms

It'd be pretty easy to make for those that are mechanically incline.

Alot of guys just bought the muddy arm adapter for there tri pods. I have all home made arms so Im going to have to build mine custom. I like the one you show single pole mounted to blind wall. just not sure if you would get camera shake!

Well since there seems to be some interest..... I'll take a look at what I have laying around the shop tomorrow and see if I come up with anything

As promised, I bummed around the shop a bit today and played with a few ideas in my head... 10 min of work with a flat piece of steel with a couple holed drilled in it and Tada! An adapter plate to connect my tree arm to my tripod! Pics should be pretty self explanatory
A coat of flat black paint and I'm ready for action!

So what is wrong with just a tripod and nice fluid head?

You know after rereading my post that came off kind of arrogant. I didn't intend for it to be that way, I was just curious if it was a huge advantage over a tripod with a nice fluid head. I just got into filming myself so just always looking for a improved way of doing something. I know that the tripod obviously can take up more space, especially being right in front of my legs can be a pain. With this setup on a monopod it would be kind of nice to stick it behind you and be able to have the arm to your side/infront of you is what I was thinking.
