Field Staffers are not something I pay any attention to so I cannot give a qualified opinion regarding their value to a brand. I don't think marketing influences me quite as much as the average person. I do a lot of my own research before buying anything. If I want an opinion on an item I will ask advice from people I know and trust.
You can't pay me enough to use a product if in my heart I want to try another but can't because of a signed contract. For me ? It's take this job and shove it. I've been offered a lot of field gigs. They hamper you so much that you end up glossing over some truths. I rather have my integrity by having freedom to express my true opinion on products. I'll make my money @ work and buy what I want. If I feel it's not worth the money, I won't buy or I'll speak up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Considering most of us on here aren't the average weekend warrior, I imagine it helps quite a bit for the masses. Your average bowhunter (or hunter in general) may not have the time or desire to research or try out products. We may be the 1%, but most of the marketing is targeting the other 99%.
Full disclosure... Sota sent me a field staff application written in purple and yellow crayon with what appeared to be a doodle of a helmet with horns?
This is one of the most entertaining threads I've seen! It's like I can see all of you sitting around a hunt cabin with a fire roaring behind us as we deal cards... Sota in a dark corner blurting out "Sota-isms" while doing a jigsaw puzzle! I love it
I'm still and will forever be of the opinion, whenever a "staffer" is speaking on a product he is being paid to sponsor, take that opinion with a grain of salt. It's a bought and paid for opinion. These opinions are what gives "staff whore" credence. I prefer the opinions of my friends if I'm wanting info on a product. That's one part. Additional part is, our sport changes. There are new developments monthly. Some of those are awesome. I want to be able to use them ! I'm shooting among a few bows mainly a Hoyt. Someone introduces a new bow, I want to be able to use it. For instance, I've been waiting for the Mathews No Cam to push some sustainable speeds comparable to my Hoyt , hunting ready. When it does, and no it hasn't yet, according to out couple speed guns, I'm buying one. I want that flexibility. You talk to a fan boy or a staffer and they will argue their No Cam shoots 350 fps. My answer is, what other bow did you shoot it against ? Crickets. That's not a real life reality answer. It's a biased one. Point is, staffers and fan boys give biased opinions. Again? Grain of salt.
