I'm new to Bow Hunting and I've caught the bug pretty bad. I been practicing quite a lot with regular 100 grain Combo Points. Can I expect the same flight and grouping with Broadheads? Is there a shaft which is better for deer hunting? Carbon, Alloy, Aluminum? I love this site and would appreciate any advise.

Welcome to the site, and to the addiction of bowhunting!

I'll predicate my response by saying that for just about every question that you'll ask here, you are sure to get 100 different responses. There are items that are preferred over others, and perform in different ways, but with all the technology that is present in the bowhunting market today, it's hard to go wrong. Much of it boils down to personal preference.

Generally speaking, field points will fly differently than broad heads (though to varying degrees). No matter what you get, you'll need to practice with them to see if your arrow flight is affected at all, and tune your set-up accordingly.

I, for one, shoot the Rage 2 Blade expandable broadheads. They fly nearly as true as my field tip to, and they come with a set of practice heads that are spot on. They are also quite devastating on impact. There are many here, however, that are much more accurate than I, and they're shooting fixed heads.

See what we all have to say, and try one or two. There are some that have been shooting the same heads for years and others that change almost every season (or multiple times a season). You find one that will work great for you.

    Again, Welcome to the addiction!
