nov issue f/s has a write up of a bow test between Mathews monster and pse x force omen both has 28'' draw 70 lb using a 388 grain arrow

mathews ibo rated 360 fps @ 80 percent letoff shot (real world) 321

pse ibo rated 366 @ 70-75 letoff shot (real world) 319

    mathews street price $959.00
    pse street price $950.00

my only gripe is when are we going to get a real hunting bow with real hunting weight arrows to shoot any where near advertised arrow speeds, i dont think 319-321 are superspeeds with a 388 grain arrow...

    what do you guys think?

Well, bump the bow up to the IBO 30" draw length and you can roughly add 20 f.p.s. to those speeds so they would read 341 and 339. That is pretty dang fast, now the extra 38 grains of arrow weight should cause roughly 13 f.p.s. of speed loss, so that would put them IBO right around 354 and 352 f.p.s.

    Exactly, Jason.

Most people don't realize how much speed they lose when shortening their draw length, dropping back in poundage, adding accessories to the string, or going with a heavier arrow (which I'd obviously recommend doing almost all these things if needed)...

IBO specs are simply an industry standard with which you can use to figure out how fast a particular bow is flinging an arrow. The reader (or prospective buyer, as the case must be) must figure out how much he can take off for everything he will be doing to the bow. In some cases, the bow must be "set to spec" to begin with because there's a couple companies/designers who are notorious for shipping out a bow 2 - 3 pounds over spec and a full 1/2" - 3/4" of an inch long on the draw, allowing them to "fudge" the numbers to achieve claimed speeds.

fudge is right, i know they all do it..... doesn't mean they or any ad should not be questioned, ya know

the test in the mag is fair, 28'' draw with a d-loop and a 388 grain arrow is a decent hunting arrow weight,

man the limbs have a lot of arc to them!
i will still look at the bow at my local pro shop, i want to here it shoot as well as see some real numbers before i drop $$$ though. show me state and all.:D

I haven't drawn either of them. What's the word on draw? Smooth and silky or brutal to start and it stays like that?

mag states as follows ''quotes'' from f/s nov issue 2009

monster mathews/ draws smooth and easy to hold at draw, has shot noise that exceeds the pse

x force pse/ cam turnover is rough, with very short valley, but is surprisingly quite for the speed

I drew the Monster at my local shop and even though the draw length was 1.5" too long for me I was surprised at how easily it drew. I expected a much stiffer draw with a big hump on the back end from such a fast bow, but it was a pleasant surprise.

I'm still not buying a Monster though. I got my eyes on something else.:D
