hunted this a.m...was giddy to just be hunting again - nothing. came off stand and did some chores, showered up and went back out had a GREAT area (Quantico you sometimes never know what your gonna get) scrape and a rub where I set in, good sign every where stand goes in nice and quiet did a practice draw and something seemed off, check my pins and my sight has been knocked loose since the last time I shot texted Brett (VA Shadow he was in a training area near me) and broke down, came home and shot the bow with some new shafts with 4" vanes that I put a right helical on and I am getting rubs from the "whale tale" thing that glues to the shelf (NAP Apache), left distinct mark on the white vanes, and I had suspected something was going on since my 4" feathers were getting a bit of a rub on them also. that and it appears we are getting our butts kicked by Bama Oh well, lots worse could happen like getting sprayed by horny skunks So crappy day hunting and I have a rest issue to figure out now.
Sean, I had the wind in my favor, had an early season rub line being worked close by, had acorns and deer crap all over the ground near me....zip except two turkey. Oh well. As usual, the only thing I can do is keep hunting hard each hunt, looking to kill something each and every hunt. GOOD luck monday, tues, and wednesday!
could be worse, i judge my hunts by weeks..if i don't see at least a doe every week in the stand it was a bad week!
Had a hen in close who was clucking like she was lonely...she went off left to right. Never saw her, had a thought to get down and stalk her, want to burn my fall turkey ticket on a hen. Looked at the harvest logs and not many deer had been taken when I punched out. 6 squirrels from 7A, so someone was getting something. Not sure where to hunt tomorrow with all the rain.
Sean, I ran the weather radar and for some reason even though the forecast calls for rain, the storm system seems to be moving NE, which means I do not think we are going to get a direct hit. I could be wrong, but we might not experience the rain they are predicting, at least not from the Doppler predictions forecasted into tomorrow. The weather is going to be a bit chilly tomorrow, and the wind will be up around 10mph which means it could be borderline tough to hunt. BUT, it may pay off big. I believe I am heading out to hunt tomorrow afternoon unless it is absolutely trechearous. I have a place in mind and will be on base around 1pm to get my pass if you would like to hunt. Take care. Brett
