Today felt like Christmas morning for me. The stuff I ordered from WKP came and I also bought a new toy. I was surfing craigslist last night and came upon one heckuva deal on a Stihl chainsaw. This thing is basically in mint condition and has only been used to cut one tree. It normally sales for $410 and I paid the guy $275. It's bigger than I initially wanted but I couldn't pass up such a good deal. Can't wait to start using it.
Very nice! Enjoy the video, it's a good one. I'm expecting my advance copy of Full Circle next week. Can't wait! Nice chainsaw too. I think it should be a man law that every guy should own a good chainsaw. Even if you only fire it up and rev it in your driveway once or twice a year before putting it away.
The wife and I are watching it right now. I'm loving it but she's not too enthused about it. :D We actually just saw your hunt. Very nice buck!
Very nice! We only have owned Stihl's in the past. Excellent saws. I see you drive a Tacoma? Or at least someone does.
We have two Stihl saws on the farm. They have been there as long as I can remember and they are still ticking. You won't be disappointed. Nice morphodite Hoyt/Bowtech sticker in the back window.
MGH...do many of your friends complain about the comfort of the back seats? Bols - Good eye man. That was the sticker I got when I bought my Trykon. When I traded it in for my Bowtech...I had to make a little modification. :D
Nice saw! I've actually got 4 Stihl's. Lisa's dad actually owns one of the bigger saw dealers in the state, and just last year kicked Stihl out of the shop due to the company. They liked the products but didn't like some of the corporate BS they had to deal with. Because of this, I got an absolute steal (no pun intended) on my bigger saw, a barely used 029 that I've ugraded to run a 3/8" chain on a 20" bar. I've also got three seperate 017's with 14" bars on them that I use for limbing stuff etc. I keep one at camp for pruning treestands and the other two up here at the house (one is really a parts saw but it does still run). As long as you take care of that thing, you will have it for a looooooooooong time. I've beat the snot out of my 017's for a long time, and put my big 029 through some pretty good workouts last summer.
I don't have any friends, so In all seriousness, it has more room than the 1st-3rd gens, and I haul people back there for short trips. Long trips, nope. I wanted the 6ft bed, wanted the locker (so no dbl cab long bed), and I don't carry people much, so the AC was an easy choice.
I remember when you bought the Trykon and put that sticker on your truck then you were debating what to put back on it once you bought your Bowtech. LOL. But I did forget about all of that until I saw a glimpse of the decal in that window again.
RJ -My dad has a couple of Stihl's as well and swears by them. I can't wait to start cutting some wood. :D BTW, do you wear chainsaw chaps? I've been debating if I should buy some. Part of me says no and the other part says to be safe and wear them if I plan on cutting a lot of wood. MGH - Yep, I have the AC too. I wanted the longer bed and actually just like the looks of the access cab. I have the TRD off-road edition too. Have you had to use the locker yet?
Finch, I know you didn't direct the first part of that question toward me, but I would say yes to the chaps. I wear chaps and a hardhat with a screen visor and built in ear muffs. Can't ever be too careful. I've used the locker twice. Both times in snow.
Thanks for answering anyway, Matt. I'll look into getting some. Don't need to cut my leg off trying to get some firewood. I haven't "had" to use my lockers yet. We haven't gotten any snow that has amounted to anything since I've owned the truck (since 06). I have used it in a deep mudhole but I didn't need it.
I don't wear chaps as often as I probably should, but I do wear them when I'm really doing a sizable job. If I'm just trimming a few saplings for a stand I don't wear them. If I have the big saw out and am dropping 24" diameter hemlocks like last summer when doing some logging at Dan's camp, and then climing around in the tops limbing them out before skidding them........then I make sure to have them on. I also have a hardhat, but it doesn't have the screen or ear muffs, that's something I want to get before next summer. I generally try to be pretty safe, as a kid I watched my father get cut pretty bad. He was just cutting a few pieces to start a fire with that night and the saw kicked and cut him on the forehead just above his hairline, and I remember he had to have a LOT of stitches and it bled like a stuck pig. He's lucky that he didn't have anything really bad happen, it was mostly just a flesh wound, but from the amount of blood it looked like he was a goner. I always remember that every time I start the saw now and try to be as careful as I can.
RJ - Thanks for the input man. I'm going to start looking for a good pair. The ones in the link below seem to work well against the "competition." Check out that link. It shows some different chaps put to the test. http://www.labonville.com/videos/v2.htm
Too bad the video didn't list the "competition". That way you could do a little further investigation and REALLY compare the different chaps.
