who hunts'em? This topic might have been discussed before but in states where it is legal, who hunts over feeders? I know many states frown on the idea but I also know Texas is BIG on feeders. I would just like to know everyone's thoughts on the idea.

    Please discuss

It is legal here in Ohio. And alot of good hunters i know hunt over them. At the same time, alot of bad hunters i know do it as well. To qoute Jeff here, "Its not for me". Maybe if it gets into late January, and i believe that it could help me put down a big buck, i would try it. As of now, im happy not hunting over feeders.

It's illegal to bait deer in Illinois, and I'm kinda glad it is. I know that a lot of people thing there is no difference to hunting on the edge of a cut cornfield and hunting over a feeder, but with a cornfield the deer at least have a very large area to eat from and it's harder to guess where they will be. I do know that a lot of states allow baiting just because the food supplies get short during the winter and without the deer would die. I'm along with many others that say "its not for me". To me I guess it just takes away from the sport of hunting, and it may change my mind if I were to try it, but I doubt it.

the only deer that would die would be the ones that nature had already intended to die. the exception being if you have an artificially inflated deer herd that is higher than the carrying capacity

I live and hunt in Fairfield County SC. I think it is the only place in SC that does NOT allow baiting.

What happens is that most of the hardwoods have been timbered and replaced with pine, because it grows fast and people sell the timber every 10-15 years. THis land is generally leased to hunt clubs. The members pay the dues and want to be able to shoot deer, so they illegally bait. Because there is not much to eat in the pines.

What that does is steal from guys like me who actually own property and follow the rules. I generally have game all over my place until about a week before the season. THe animals that eat corn dissappear until about a week after the season. Which is when I start putting out corn. (it is legal if you don't hunt over it)

I just wish they would make it legal in my county like it is every where else, Then I couldn't get robbed.
