So this does include all National Forest lands? I thought it was just parks and refuges. If so, a lot of hunters are screwed, and the deer are going to have some ENORMOUS sanctuaries!
Yea, I saw that. But I've also seen other articles saying it did not include forest lands. I thought National forest enforcement was done by state DNR officers?
I am sure there are exceptions both ways, but it looks like the most of it is closed from what I am reading.
"BLM's frequently asked questions, from the link you provided, state that all non-developed lands without secured access (hunting lands) will remain open." --Taken from the comments on the F&S Article So if there is no gate to keep you out, it should still be open. at least that's what I read.
I would be of the believe, unless it's a fenced in area, there would be no reason to "close" public land.
There's no doubt it's political. I just saying there's no way in the world they could police public land.
Carlyle Lake in IL is officially closed. No camping at the campgrounds and all boat ramps are closed. Those at the campgrounds have until Friday to vacate.
So has this been clarified yet? Are National Forest Wilderness areas closed? I personally could care less about National Parks or anything with a gate. I’m talking about the real National Forest land including designated Wilderness areas. I am finding conflicting information as well.
I am not asking about wildlife areas. According to this our trip is going to be fine. DNR advises residents on use of federal land during shutdown Stark provided the following guidance: ■ Hunting will be permitted in 1.5 million-acre Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, but all facilities operated by the forest service will be closed, Stark said, based on discussions with the federal agency's law enforcement personnel. ■ All campgrounds on national forest land will be closed by Friday.
The way it states it is if the area is fee access or registration required etc then it is closed. By the last post here with the picture..the FWS lands are all closed(this is a separate entity though). So the majority of Hiawatha, Ottawa, Chequamegon and Nicolet etc would still be open to hunting/recreation, excluding the campgrounds and fee required use areas...I would imagine they should have signage at entry points if they are closed. They were still launching boats at Black River Harbor yesterday - this is owned by the Forest Service but there is no fee...and folks were still visiting the waterfalls along the scenic byway out there(all part of the Ottawa Nat'l Forest).
