anybody else had issues with trail cams corrupting SD cards when the battery gets low? I have this problem just about every time as I can usually only check my cameras every 6-8 weeks. last year I had troubles when using 5 of the "cheap" fleet farm cameras (you know the ones I'm talking about), had corruption problems with roughly 1/2 of the data. In most cases I was able to use recovery software to recover all but the last picture that was took. This year I assumed I should pony up and get the "good stuff". I bought 3 new cameras (2 brands) and new SD cards, just checked my cams (placed in mid-april) and 2 out of 3 had this issue (1 of each brand). 1 of the SD cards is so messed up the PC won't even let me reformat it!! Is checking the camera every 2+ months out of the ordinary? What do most people do? -------- I'm assuming it is happening when the current spikes while the SD card is being written to, while the battery is low, causing the FAT tables to be corrupted? I'm thinking of wiring one of those cheapo fleet farm cameras to a 6V lantern battery (they run off 4AA=6V) to get the run-time up about 10x's with a couple 100uF capacitors in parallel to handle the current spikes during SD write. That at least would guarantee that the battery would not go dead between card swaps. any thoughts?
That problem sounds unusual to me. I think in all the years I've ran cams I've only had one card go bad. Hope you get it worked out. Blessings.......Pastorjim
Can i ask if you are using a card reader that you plug into your pc..I have had trouble with mine in the past. also i have very good luck with sandisk and kingston cards in all my cams most are 2gb and some 4gb in cams that just take pics, some of my cams that have super battery life i run 8gb cards any cam with plot mode runs a 16gb cards and lithium batterys and i need some 32gb cards soon for my field plot cams. If your cam can formatt the cards in the cam not your computer you may or may not have a problem right away but i find over time some cams run into problems down the road. If my cams are not in the woods there running on my driveway all year round, there are a lot of things to learn about cams.
I've only had one to go bad out of probably 30 cards over the last 5 years. It was a Sandisk Ultra HD card.
I have never had this problem. I only use Sandisk SD cards. I have left my cam out for over 2 months and still recovered all the pics that were taken. I hope you get it worked out.
I'm guessing it is the one thing in common with all your different brand cameras and cards....your PC! Make sure your computer is bug free and your card reader works properly
Can't say I have ever had a card issue since I switched to buying cameras with the option to format right on them ! Good luck hope you can get the problem solved !
