    Vanes

Definitely go with vanes, more durable, shoot straighter. I use Blazer vanes on my Carbon Express arrows, they work great.

i have to disagree here even though i shoot blazers myself i feel vanes and feathers shoot the same accuracy wise the feathers will shoot the same with chunks of them missing try that with vanes also if the fletching does hit anything with vanes it will push your arrow out of line where with feathers they just lay down so i personally dont think there is much of a diff. other than what i mentioned it is more about what you feel comfortable with but again this is just .02 on this topic

Of course, the above is written by a feather fletching manufacturer.

I believe feathers are quieter and more forgiving than vanes and I shoot 2 inch Blazers. Also when damaged, vanes are much louder than damaged feathers.

The vanes are pretty tough AND make my arrows fly wonderfully. Rain and snow has no effect on their profile.

That being said, my next batch of ammo will probably be wearing Razors with extreme FOC weighting and single bevel Abowyers or Grizzlys (probably on alloy shafts).

So why are the blazer vanes so popular? If feathers are just as fast and more forgiving. Why do people use the blazer vanes?

from what i understand in a crosswind the blazers stabilize better but i personally think it is because of all the marketing and the fact that they are newer i have them on my arrows not paying attention but they are hitting my strings so i am off to the bow shop in a lil bit to have feathers put on

Some folks just like vanes. Others just believe all of the untruths about feathers.

I would pay attention to whether you will ever be hunting in the rain? Feathers get wet, and fall down and collect water which will affect your shooting, and I have heard that blazers are better w/ crosswind being much smaller. Another thing to look at is, plastic vanes can get rippled and bent easily, while feathers usually are better about that although I have seen that the feathers can get bent and messed up so cons for both as of that! Feathers are faster out to twenty yards I know of because they are lighter but, I believe blazers stabilize quicker. I also know of an experiment done where blazers, feathers, and longer vanes were used. Feathers were faster at 20yds. but, feathers also dropped 16-18in at 40, where as blazers were 5fps slower but, dropped only 10-12 inch. from 20 to 40 yds. Good luck!!! I have noticed the same results w/ my hunting partner who hunts w/ feathers!

When I was shooting a WB rest, I prefered 4" feathers.

With a drop away I used 2" Quick Spins and 2" Blazers.

With my recurve I'm using 4" feathers.

When I tested the difference between 4" veins, and 2" quick spins, the increased accuracy was notable.(Compund. QAD Drop away rest. Out to 60(?) yards)
