Id say yes . If they lost their mother id say they would catch up with another resident doe in your area and will probably be fine but they would be more like for predators to get to them before they group up with other does.
When do fawns typically ween? I gotta bunch of doe and twin fawns on the land I hunt. I don't wanna shoot a doe to early and mess up the fawn potential. I am trying to be very intentional with what I harvest in order to build and eventually maintain a strong herd of deer around the area.
I don't exactly how long they drink but I do know by late summer they are off the tete. I have seen them try to get a drink even late in the year but mom wasn't having it. If you've got a few does that drop twins and your trying to build up the herd you may want to stick a young one instead of the old ones that may have multiple fawns. We have one old breeder that has dropped triplets past few years.
When fawns lose their mother they will look for a another doe. I seen many times a doe will adopt a fawn or two. Even with the mother of the fawn is still around. When it comes to does and deer management. Its all a numbers game, still trying to figure out my own property. Older does can have 2 - 3 fawns a year. If you trying to build your herd up. Wing out little fawns and leave the big mature does to keep pumping mass numbers of fawns. If your trying to thin your herd, pump big mature does. I perfer the 1buck for every 3 doe. Everyone is different though on deer management.
A field guide (can't remember the name) to North American game animals wrote that 20-30% of does will give birth around the time of their first birthday. The guide also mentioned that a one week old will out run a man and the deer self-ween very quickly by eating whatever mama eats. Shoot mama and they will do fine.
Hell about another month or so you will start to see packs a fawns there mommas kick them out so they can get there grove on! If you need meat in the freezer CHOOTEM ELIZABITH CHOOTEM!
