2008 Chevy 2500 duramax, This was my dream truck and I still kick my self every day for getting rid of it but its hard to turn down more then what you paid for it. Now I have 2011 GMC canyon with a 5.3 motor. Its a close second and fun little truck but still miss the duramax
I've only ever owned two vehicles. My current 2005 Tacoma, and my 1996 Tacoma I bought senior year of high school, built up, wheeled it, then sold it before I got married Miss that truck. 2.5" King Coilovers/2.5"AAL in the rear with Bilstein 5100s 3" BL (Never again) Softopper Xeon Flares PG 4.88s 33x12.50 Trxus MTs CBI Front Stinger Bumper with Winch Mount Custom built (by me) Sliders and Rear Bumper
*EDIT* And tell us what you currently drive. Would be interesting to see what your favorite ride was compared to your current transportation. (If your fav and current vehicle differ) This is basically what it looks like. Except there is no front skirt or rear mud flaps anymore. Took them off. Prob make a few changes if I ever get it back from service.
I loved my old scouts. My Warpony in particular. It was a '77 Scout Terra. 345 v8. Fast for a Scout. Originally had pick up type cab but usually it had a full top on it. In the summer the top would come off. Have a topless truck is cool for about the first three miles. Not so cool after that. Particularly if you have long hair. I'd have to use five rubber bands and a zillion bobbypins to keep my hair from attacking me when I drove it that way. Wildfire Scout. Topless Warpony Full top (you can almost see it) It spun a bearing while hauling a 30' trailer up to Wisconsin. Swapped out engines (with a tired 304) and it was still running but I needed something a little more powerful. So I went to the dealership and bought a brand new 2001 2500 HD Silverado. 6L vortec. I remember how the salesman was telling me how it had a built-in compass and temperature gauge and I told him "Hey, listen, I'm just impressed that it has cup holders." As much fun as my old IH's were.. I love my Silverado. It's a rusty, muddy, bloody mess and it will probably have some sort of terminal mechanical issue in the not-so-distant future but I love that truck. I beat on it pretty hard back when I lived in IL but I seriously take it to task out here. I have found myself on the edges of cliffs with no option but to keep going an hope the trail got better and I didn't fall off the mountain. Another time I was halfway up a steep icy trail when the truck just started sliding back down. Ever try slide-steering down a mountain? I only slid about 40 feet but it felt like 400'. Mostly because if the truck slid all the way down into the ravine, that would be the end of it. My tires have gouges not just in the tread but on the sidewalls and one rim is slightly mangled from going over the jagged rocks that make up most of our trails. It's freaking awesome! :D Big blue when it was still brand new. If I keep it covered with mud you can't even see the rust. Gratuitous scenery shots.
I was driving around up on top of that mountain in the last picture (but on the other side) when I was pretty sure I was going fall off a cliff to my death. :D
77 Int. Traveler on **** Cepek gas susp. 6in lift.... man that rig would go anywhere. Pop that top off in the summer, just can't be beat. I'll have another.... one day
I had a traveler too. It was my first IH. It ran up until it's last day but it had rusted to the point of being unsafe. (and if it's unsafe by my low standards.. it's really a deathtrap) You're too young to have owned a IH light truck. I call foul. :p
I just don't like BL's. Too much stress on the body mounts when wheeling and requires a bunch of work to get lines to stretch/clear. Not to mention the ugliness of the exposed frame components. Just not my cup of tea. A 1" or so might be a little more tolerable, but I probably won't ever put one back on a truck. Honestly, I would have been fine with the coilovers and some body trimming to clear the 33x12.50s. I hate drop bracket lifts, so they were out, and a SAS was too $$ for me (although I went as far as to purchased a D44 for it, but sold it after plans changed). The 5100s were solid. Have them on my 05 currently as well.
I've had good luck with my Dodge RAM. I've owned 3 cars and now my truck in my life and I will never drive something other than a truck moving forward unless I can't afford it. My truck is the one in the front.
I am not big on BL's either, especially 3 inch BL's... I just thought you had a failure or something from what you posted.
I was always into fast german cars when I was younger. I had a truck and a jeep when I was younger but nothing really nice. My favorite car was a 01' VW Jetta WE with the 1.8T motor. I bought the car brand new when I got my first good job and will never forget the day I drove it off the lot. I had a ton of work done to the car but for the most part except the grille and euro plate no one could really see anything obvious. The car when through several stages of tuning in the 5 years I had it, but at it's fastest point I was running a 50 trim t3/t4, custom exhaust manifold, front mount intercooler painted black (for stealth), Revo software, had a custom 3" turbo back exhaust, motor mounts, Koni adjustable shocks/struts, H&R sport springs, and a bunch of other stuff I'm not remembering right now. I had over 100 1/4 mile passes on the car by time I sold it and had it on the dyno several times as well. I'd have to dig up the old time slips, but I believe my best run on pump gas trapped at 118mph and on C16 I trapped at 121mph. I can't find my dyno charts either but it was around 365hp at the wheels on my daily drive pump gas tune and 380+ on C16. The car had zero traction from a stop due to FWD but from say a 30mph roll it would put 5+ car lengths on a bolt on LS1 Camaro before we hit 100.
another fav had a 1977 Chevy Monza spider [the car that replaced the Vega]... built a 450hp 350sb and turbo 350 trans installed a narrowed rear end w/513 rear gears and a cage,NOS.. the car would 5.90s in the 1/8 and was still street driven DAILY..
My first truck, the 1989 Ford Ranger, 2.3l 4 cylinder, 4x4 5 speed, regular cab with long bed. I worked and bought it myself when I was 15, never got my license till I was 17. That thing was awesome, slow as crap. But now it would have to be my 2011 Z71 Silverado. I really like this truck. I'm going to put a 3.5" inch lift on it some day(maybe). Or my Street Bob, I put a lot of miles on this sucker. Next vehicle/toy is an old C10 or Apache. I'm thinking I like the Apache better.Like this:
