I thought this would be a cool thread. What is your favorite stand? Why? Is it ALSO your most productive place? What brand of stand is it? How much do you hunt it? How high is it? Pictures, aerials, or topos are MORE then welcome. I've got to go, but will chime in with mine later. Post 'em up! This could be a great learning experience.
My favorite stand is one that I have only hunted 1 time so far this year, been saving it for late season. Will get to hunt it this weekend. Its nestled on the side of a mountain on a main trail benched out spot, that is right in the middle of a big bedding area for several bucks. Its the only stand site I have that I got consistent mature buck daylight movement trail cam pix of, day after day.. its a very cool spot for a big woods setting and it has an old skid trail I can sneak in on to get to the stand. It has several very old logging skid trails, probably 40 plus years old.. that lead down to this stand. The stand itself is a pondeosa pine and there is a ton (30-40 acres)of red stemmed ceanothus in the timber on this mountainside. They love eating this stuff and can lay right in it.. its impenetrateble in a lot of places. So this trail looks like a cattle trail that the bucks use to get up and down the mountain..
My favorite stand is a and that over looks a slight valley. In the very middle of the valley there is a creek that runs down the middle. To my left about 100 yards away is the railroad tracks, with the highway being about 150 yards away. The area is a great spot because the deer cross the road from the family winery and come over onto our land and usually funnel up the valley. We almost always see a decent amount of deer every sit, and we've seen some true monster bucks there. My dad shot a 192 5/8" NT several years ago out of this stand, and we've also seen a buck that would go in the 160's, 170's and 180's out of this stand. Not far away is a pond, and there are several fields in the area as well. I actually shot my doe earlier this year out of this stand. In the map the white dot marks my stand location, while the red dot is where I shot my doe this year. You can also see the highway and RR tracks pretty easily too.
Here is a topo of my two fav stands. The yellow lines show where the deer move. The blue lines just show a area that is getting flattened for future development. The picture below it was taking from the stand to the left. I shot my deer out of the stand, about 10 yards out from where this deer walked. Another guy that we hunt with got his deer out of this stand too.
