Well, I'm bored, and we need another music thread, so why not? I got to thinking. Much of my music taste as changed throughout the past few years, and I've really started to see what I truly like. By like, I mean I can listen to the groups/songs over and over and over again, and I never tire of them. I would have to say grunge has become one of my favorite "era's" for me over the past few years. I listened to it somewhat when I was little, only because my brother was a teenager when it was really out in full force. I would have to say in particular, AIC is one of my favorites from this time. Heck, even their new stuff is pretty good, but Layne Staley had a very unique sound, and he could certainly hit some crazy notes. As for country, I started listening to it when I went to college 7 years ago. I've slowly started listening to the mainstream less, and listening to the early/mid 90's stuff as well as the classics (Merle, Cash, HW Jr, Kristofferson, Willie, etc,). Curious as to what your favorite genre/era happens to be.
Bluegrass I really dig bluegrass. Great musicians, rythem and lyrics that I can understand and relate with. I also listen to country, if you wanna call it that. Alot of the "young guns" country sucks IMO. Classic country is ALOT better to listen too, but you can't beat bluegrass.
I am a huge fan of '90s music. I really don't have a favorite band. However I think Chris Cornell can sing a grocery list and make it sound good.
I listen to mostly Country, I like the older country, but it is hard to find any stations around here that will play it, so I end up listening to more of the new country. But, growing up in the 80's, I still love the 80's Rock.
I honestly pretty much like it all, except whatever Hooker listens too, that dude's got the worst taste in music Ive ever seen :D J/K kind of...
I like 90's country if i really had to choose. But I listen to a lot of stuff from a lot of different eras.
I just saw Justin Moore in concert tonight.... and after watching him... he is the only/best country artist that I have watched in a long damn time. He was playing at the local fair grounds so it wasn't a "big" event, but he still played for more than 2 hours, and played everything from his cd, to new songs from his up-coming cd (which are amazing) to some Skynard, Hank Jr, Willie Nelson, and even some Bad Company. He left the stage and went into "the pit", and then even went into the different sections of the grandstands to play up close for the people there.
I think it's well documented on this forum, but I generally listen to late 90s or modern indie rock. Now there are a million sub genres of indie rock, but I find all the sub naming somewhat annoying. Just for that, I'll post a few songs I've been enjoying this week. Oh how I love thee Zooey (She & Him - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here) Arcade Fire - We Used to Wait The National - Lemonworld
I like almost all of it except for; really heavy metal, bands like owl city, and some of the really new country ppl. but other than that the rest is pretty good some of my favs are: Jason Aldean, Justin Moore, Kenny Chesney, Trace Adkins, ZBB, 3 days grace, shinedown, bad company, Eminem, GnR, Reckless Kelly, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Brooks and Dunn, Eric Church.
I mostly enjoy classic rock. Zeppelin, The Kinks, Doors, Beatles, Boston, Cream, Van Halen etc. but also enjoy quite a bit of tunes all the way up to around the 2000's with the exception of a few certain bands. I find new music hard to withstand. Everything coming out is garbage IMO.
You just listen to FM radio too much. There are some great bands creating some really unique, innovative sounds right now, you just have to do a little work to find them. What you hear on FM radio should not be a representation of modern music. It's a dumbed down version of music created for the lowest denominator. The reason why I hate 80s music is because 80s music caused the destruction of popular music. Bands discovered that the masses gravitated towards short, catchy pseudo ballads. So the verse/chorus/bridge formula was created. Now any hack that can play an instrument and sing a few notes can write a hit pop song without having any real creativity. Just go by the formula, and the masses will eat it up.
As long as it ain't Rap, Classical, or Operatic, I'll listen to it. Favorites include: James Gang, Cream, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Doobie Bro's, Eagles, Toby Keith, Chesney, Garth, Mason Profit, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.....
I can handle just about any music except country. I've tried, but I just can't do it. I also can't listen to FM radio. 80s, 90s, new stuff, heavy metal, alternative, indie, folk, rap, etc...anything except country. I realize on a hunting forum I'm probably in the minority. I love me some music, and the great thing about music, there is something out there for everyone.
Oh I still listen to new music on Pandora, XM Radio and through various friends who stay on top of the Indie music scene. I rarely if never listen to FM radio. I still don't necessarily find most of the music anything that makes me think "WOW!" . Bands like Arcade Fire, The National, Band of Horses, etc. do nothing for me whatsoever. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy some indie rock but overall as a genre it is a crap shoot.
Sorry Hook, but I don't get Arcade Fire at all. I really don't. I have numerous friends who love them but they just don't do it for me. Canuck, orchestrated music doesn't do it for me I suppose.
