Intimate is not the word for 1st Ave... On a busy night, you will dman near have (unwanted) carnal knowledge of at least 20 people before you leave. Not the greatest, but it certainly grows on you...

As far as SOAD, I saw them at Ozzfest... By far the best show out there... Even better than Ozzy... (unfortunatly)

Jimmy Buffett for overall party atmosphere.

Kenny Chesney for both party & music.

Kid rock puts on a GREAT show.

Saw Aerosmith one time in full blown thunderstorm, it was insane.

I think it was the summer of 2000 or 2001 there was a tour called Tattoo the Earth. I saw it at the Rave/Eagle's Ballroom in Milwaukee. Hands down the best collection of bands on a single bill that I've ever been to. Slipknot, Slayer, Sepultura, Sevendust, Hed PE, Mudvayne, Hatebreed, Downset, and a lot more. This is my first time seeing Mudvayne and shortly before their debut album came out. From that point forward they've been one of my favorite bands, and one I've seen probably a dozen or more times. The highlight was some drunk guy jumping on the bar, yelling "SLAAAAYYYER!!!" then jumping off and kneeing my buddy in the side of the face. Hilarious. :D

A close 2nd would be Incubus @ the HOB in Chicago circa 1999 shortly after Make Yourself came out. They played for a sold 2 hours, plus about a 45 minute encore that included a lot of stuff off their EP Enjoy Incubus. This was also shortly before they became commercially successful and turned into a glorified boy band.

3rd would be Staind/Kid Rock/Limp Bizkit also circa 1999ish. The hight of Limb Bizkit's popularity and Kid Rock was just starting to get big. Without a doubt the most energy of any show I've ever been to, and also the hottest. A ton of people were passing out and getting carried up over the front rails. It was insane.

Tonight I'm going to see Killswitch Engage @ HOB in Chicago which should be interesting. Their lead singer had to drop off the tour (I think he's sick) so the singer from All That Remains is filling in. Wooooohaaaaaa!!!!!!

JZ I was at that same show and I would have to agree its one of those you have to be there to believe it shows. At the time I was there to see Slayer and Sepultura.
Another favorite was at the Rave back in 2008 I believe when i took my then 10 yr old son
Dylan to see megadeth. That was already his 3rd concert he has been to.
Last but not least and a shout out to Bowhuntingfool (Joe) for hooking us up with the
Cheap Trick, Poison, Def Leppard 2009 in Milwaukee. Did you ever make it up to that show, lol

Also back in the 80's a chicago area band called Holland with 2 of my friends in it were a blast.
Most memorable shows were probably at the thirsty whale.

I used to think I went to a lot of concerts until I met Justin. I just bowed my head because I knew that I'd been beat, and laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Justin's feet. :)

Anybody ever go to ChicagoFest before Jessie Jackson and Harold Washington killed it? I was pretty young.... but it was a sweet deal.

How about the Blues Fest? I'm not really into blues but that's a lot of fun too. (and dang, talk about a lot of weed!)

I probably have only seen 15 concerts in my life, even though I live within 10 minutes of a large concert venue. I remember getting really piss drunk in college and seeing Creed, The Blues Travellers, 311, Lenny Kravitz, and some other bands one night down in Newport News at ODU....had a great time. I have also seen Dave Matthews a couple of times as one of my frat brothers used to play on some of the side shows at his concerts. I enjoyed his concerts. Seen some country concerts and had an up close personal concert in the form of Alabama down in Newport News as well. It was a great concert minus the lead singer dancing around shaking and touching his rear end all night. :)

Agreed.....SRV had a lot of secrets. He lived a little harder than most of us think.

Yup... Stevie Ray used .013 strings on his Strat (i.e. very heavy guage), and still played the hell out of it. Legend has it that he would sometimes tear the calouses (sp?) off his fingertips, and then slip backstage between songs and crazy glue them back on!

I went to concerts at least once a week in college, but I can honestly say that the best concert I've ever been to was Shooter Jennings. Shooter Jennings is no where close to one of my favorite musicians, but this concert was at a small venue, only sold 50 tickets (I still don't know how we were able to get tickets). Just the vibe at that show was incredible.

yup, SRV used bridge cables on his guitar, probably why he tuned down a half step, but even with a half step down he was running much higher tension than I do with 10's on my strat... I know one guy who had a strat setup with 12's and I tried to play it, I got about half way thru one chord progression and had to bail on it, fingers were aching...

    Honest question....

Wouldn't playing an acoustic benefit your electric prowess?
