Is there any place where a fat out of shape hunter can have a chance at killing an elk? Just wondering...for a friend of course...:poke:

There are a few high fence places that would love to drive your friend to a blind to kill an elk :poke:

Haha heck I might as well glue some antlers to a cat then. At least the shot would be more of a challenge lol.

A challenge, for the cat? :)

I can't help your friend any specifics, but a blind on a well recon-ed area may be the way to go.

Tell your friend get a muzzle loader or riffle tag, maybe a gym membership, and a good guide. If your friend has the cash I would get a Jicarilla Elk tag. I know they have been decimating the elks out here in unit 2 in NM for the muzzle loader season. I'm way jealous, I only saw 2 bulls and several cows during my bow hunt.

My father goes elk hunting every year (well he use to before his spinal cord damage), and when he started to get up in years he would hunt the water holes and wallows that the elk frequent. He was very successful hunting this way toward the end of our self guided Colorado elk hunts. I suggest taking trail cameras to set up at multiple holes to get an idea of what is visiting each place.

If your 'friend' is that worried about it, they could always hunt water, wallows or trails from a tree stand or ground blind....

I'm sorry if I came off a little smug... Tell your friend that a waterhole is a great place to sit. I ended up getting into decent shape just scouting before the season opened. Use trail cams and just walk more and more each day. Get out and shed hunt in the spring and just slowly work into more.
