I am confident about 40yards and in. However, I learned a valuable lesson about long shots, I had a group of does about 60yards out, no wind, very calm not moving much eating in around the base of tree.About 6 of them. I practice out to 50 yards, but I always considered 40 in to be the most ethical shots because I was consistant in practice at that range. After watching them for about 20 minutes we were nearing last light. One strayed into the 50yards range so I decided to take a shot. I drew releasedand watchedthe arrow seemto sail forever, In the time it too the arrow to reach, Shemoved from broad side to quartring torwards me and I endedup trimming a littlehair off her hip.theya ctually went over towhere thearrow landedand kinda milled around before leaving. I gotthearrow and saw the shaved hair in the ferrule. Lessons, deer far away don't jumpr the string like those closer in; Beyond 35 yards or so you start to get into a range wherethey can move alot while and arrow is in flight.
Longest kill shot so far was 26 yards. I am confident out to 40 but would and have passed on that shot
My longest shot is 35 and feel confident anywhere within 50, but 35 yards is about the max distance for me while hunting, too much can go wrong the longer that arrow is in flight.
I don't hunt fields much,in my woods you would be lucky to see 20 yards during the early season it's very thick around the river and streams.
I practice out to 80yds. That being said I haven't taken a shot over 25yds, and would need perfect conditions to take even a 30yd shot. We owe it to the animal to make the best shot possible. There are too many things that can go wrong over 30 yds. We've all had deer jump the string on us or take a step. It comes down not to ability but to external factors.
shot a doe last fall at 78yards put my 50 yard pin a lil over her back and let it fly. normally I wudnt take a shot like that but she was eating in the field and there was no wind. I practice at 50 yards and prolly wont ever take another shot over that.
