Whats the farthest youd shoot a deer, i see alot of people who shoot really far like 60 and 70 yards. Thats crazy lol im a 40 yards or under guy lol id love to have range like that amd be confident but i think id get to nervous about that far of a shot and miss lol
Longest shot I've taken is 35. I'd probably go 40 if the conditions where right. Been practicing out to 60 this summer. Going to bump out further once I finish my last bit of tweaking
Took a doe at a little over 50yrds. Double lung. That's about as far as I will shoot.(she was calm, and out in a field)
Interesting thread. What I have seen is guys with 7 pins taking western 70-90 yard shots on speed goats and mulies yet would never take a 50 yard shot on their own whitetail property.. I passed a 54 yard shot on a 160 last year as He was camped in a 15 acre spot and not going anywhere. He went nocturnal and survived gun season as well. My 7 pins are more for a followup shot then a first shot.
Comfortable to 40 and I have pins for 50 & 60 but the conditions would have to be absolutely perfect for a 50 yard shot...wouldn't even think of taking a 60 yard shot
I have pins out to 50 yards. Main reason I did that was for coons and coyotes, etc. I feel most comfortable shooting deer 30 yards and under.
I would take a 45-50 yard shot but the conditions would have to be absolutely perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Farthest thus far was 40, but practice out to 70, 60 is dead on, even with a little wind. Confidence while shooting is key, that being said, For myself, 50 doesnt stray much more than an inch left or right up or down... so i'd shoot 50 without hesitation
I practice out to 50 but like most others that have posted I am most comfortable making a shot 40 yards and in. My longest kill was at 25 yards thus far.
My longest shot was 42 yards. Biggest deer shot was at 16 yards. I shoot a 7-8" group at 80 yards. Would feel very comfortable on a deer at 60 yards. Up to 80 on coyotes. Most of my shots are less than 20 yards. I hunt a lot of fence lines and field edges.
I practice out to 60 yards but don't think I would attempt anything beyond 45yds. If I feel comfortable and can shoot good groups at 60 then my confidence for shooting at 45yds and below will be much better. Farthest kill shot for me is under 25yds.
35 is the longest I have shot or will shoot . I've had deer move as I released a few times at 20-30 yards and felt lucky to recover them . The thing to remember is .... the farther the shot , the more that can go wrong .
With bow hunting, I'm more impressed hearing someone took a 10 yd shot instead of a 50 yd shot. But even so, my longest shot is 40 with a clean kill, but then again I also made a bad shot at 30 3 weeks later. You just never know what will happen when that arrow leaves the bow, be it human error or just the nature of the deer.
