Search for "vertical solar farm" and see that solar panels don't necessarily need to be sloped or horizontal. Several links there.

I seen a deer contest on here for who can shoot the most deer, is that where we are these days?

You make a thread about hunter number decline, then you post a snide comment about two very active hunters, haha. Fix and I stack deer every year with or without the contest. I had a great time getting to know Fix and Adam more, as they are great guys, dedicated hunters and more importantly great family men. This contest wasn’t about beating on the chest, it was about having fun doing what we love and camaraderie. So Is this where we are these days?! For some of us yes, just like the team contest it’s fun and gives the sense of hunting camp. The successes and hard lessons learnt during the season gives way to optimism the following year and the people you share it with are along for the ride!

I was talking about that post yesterday, but I didn't say anything, since it's par for the course with him. Glad to see him out of the water cooler, not surprised to see him with a hot take, or just BS.

I did contest here for many years, I found it not to be for me, I like the team aspect and I agree with this :

"it was about having fun doing what we love and camaraderie. So Is this where we are these days?! For some of us yes, just like the team contest it’s fun and gives the sense of hunting camp."

You made a great point with the hunting camp sense, maybe that's it we lost how it feels to be in a hunting camps and have become a bit isolated. The contest bring that back a bit for some. Thanks for a repones, I get it.

Its interesting. I'm about as hardcore about hunting as anyone. Yet my 15 year old son, who I brought up hunting, is losing interest. In fact, he barely hunted with me this year, choosing to do other activities, etc.

I was the same way about his age. Friends, sports and girls. Hunting was pretty far down on my list until I made it out of my teens.

You planted the seed. It will grow.

You should ask him why and see what he says.

I know plenty of people who hunt and have lots of access to primo ground and opportunities for their kids and they just never got into it for one reason or another. IMO it's no different than any other hobby - some people are ate up with it, while others aren't. Different strokes for different folks they say!

I ask him all the time. He says he'd rather go fishing than hunting. He's a bit of an ADD kid, so sitting around staring and waiting just isn't in his cards. But then again... when I was 15/16... there were some things I would much rather be doing at times other than hunting... haha.

His case is different but here's something that may be a bit more in line. He and I talk about the other kids in his school and he says he knows of a handful of kids who hunt. I went to this same high school when I was a kid and I can tell you that if you were in school the first two or three days of the PA rifle season, there were A LOT of empty seats in classes because kids were hunting. Whats changed? I have an idea but I can't verify it. This area where I live and grew up in has changed dramatically from a demographic and social standpoint. The number of people who moved into this area has changed the make up. These people have kids who my kids go to school with and they just don't hunt.

I don't want to be the old guy but, the world is changing. Of course I miss the old days, but what's more is I am actively in disdain for those that are my age that don't!

I recall reading of some school districts in Pennsylvania that dismissed classes on the first day of gun season. Too many kids, teachers and staff headed into the woods.

Yup, some schools, including ours do. But the number of kids hunting is significantly down here. Now, I attribute some of this to the fact that PA changed its start date for gun season to Saturday instead of Monday and you're allowed to hunt that Sunday too. Which, was a great move. However, my son, who tagged out the first two days of season, went back to school on Tuesday and most kids were back. He just says that finding kids who hunt is few and far between.

When I went there, they gave us two days off school because of the lack of kids. If you showed up on Wednesday of that first week... there were quite a few empty seats as a lot of kids were at camp hunting.

    Times are changing.

Do you have a hunting club nearby? One thing we have done and it's self-funded by parents is a trap shooting High School team, maybe we should propose archery high school teams, 3d shoots are not as popular anymore since crossbows. I spent most of my spare time at the hunting club I joined and learned a lot. Perhaps it's time I join back up.
