I got my fall plots in on Saturday. It was a long day basically taking me from 8am till 8pm. I knew I had to finish them on Saturday since we were supposed to and did get some rain on Sunday.
In my big plot I kept the clover that is doing well and sprayed and planted the areas that were not doing so well. The small plot I completely sprayed it and started over.
I planted at a ratio of 3lbs/acre Purple Top Turnips, 2 lbs/acre Dwarf essex rape and 5 lbs/acre ground hog radish.

So the first step was 10 days ago I sprayed glyphosate to kill the weeds and vegetation. When I arrived this weekend the two plots looked like this:

I then put a saw blade on the end of my weed wacker and trimmed the vegation down as far as pratical.

Next I hooked up the disc. I put it on about the middle for aggressiveness. It dug in really well and broke the ground no problem. I was impressed with its effectiveness. My 617cc Mule pulled it no problem and as long as I kept moving the fan wasn't running.

My soil test called for 5000lbs/acre of lime. I put down 2000 lbs of pellet lime for the 0.4 acre that I am planting. I know it looks a little dusty for pellet lime but there is granules coming out like crazy as I had the hopper open all the way. I am not sure if I would use the same pellet lime as I did this time.

I also fertilized with 9-16-23 and then lighty disced in the fertilizer and lime.

I then ran my home built drag over both plots to smooth and break up the clumps.

    Mixed the seed.

And used my hand seeder to apply the brassicas.

Then I ran the drag back over it to work the seed into the soil.

Looks good. Soil still looked a bit damp but you got to get it in when you can. What kind of seeder is that and how do you like it?

The dirt was basically perfect moisture content to work with. Looking at the pictures it looks more damp than it actually was (looks darker). It had just enough moisture to keep it workable but not too wet where it got clumpy or too soft. We have not had rain up there for two weeks prior so it took some time to dry out and I am very thankful mother nature cooperated.

Sunday would of been a whole other story since we got a good soft rain Sunday morning.

Care of the recommondation of Mr. Dan Schafer I have the Earthway hand seeder. Like any seeder you have to be real careful with the small seeds in clover and brassicas otherwise it comes out too fast. But it works good. I even used it to fertilize my clover this spring when I could not drive in the plots.

Nice job brad..I keep my EW set at 2 for brassicas. I rather go over it twice than spread too heavy.

nice thread .... appreciate the pictures!

I put my Fall plots in a couple of weeks ago in NW Wisconsin, and we haven't had any rain since (it was supposed to rain for 2 days after I seeded, but never happened) I'm hoping mine can turn out.... sure need rain.

Looks good. It's still too wet for me to put in any food plots where I need to.

Great job! Looking forward to seeing the new growth. We just had torrential down pours today so I'm not sure when the ground will be plantable.... Hopefully be next weekend I can get some of my fall plots in.

Thanks guys. The weather is really helping out with getting rain right away and again on Monday night. More rain is predicted for tomorrow. Hopefully we don't get too much. I wish I was going up to check out if/how much has germed this weekend.
