Hopefully the weather models are correct, showing a big cold surge for the middle part if the country late next week.

Hopefully be the first widespread frost and maybe hard freeze for some.

If true I have a stand in mind to hunt that would probably produce my best chance at a pre rut buck.

I took my 8 year old grand daughter out hunting last evening. We ended up seeing 13 deer but the only one with horns was a spike. She shot a 7 point last year with her crossbow, so she elected to pass. Great evening to spend one on one though.

Going for a sit tomorrow in a spot I haven't touched all season. I know this guy made it through the season from last year. With this cool weather we're having, maybe he will show himself. This is also public land, but it's an archery only area.

Good luck fellas. I opted to not hunt today due to the weather...mainly wind was bad for both of my stands. I'll be pouring over the map tonight looking for a good place to get my climber hung with these changing winds.

I have to make it through 9 more days of work over the next 2 weeks. Change of pace the last two years only hunting once or twice in October holding out for November. Weather has been absolute fesces lately so not overly concerned there.

I am so looking forward to getting out there and sitting as long as it takes. My only fear is my nemesis, a clean 10, hoping I don't snap judge on a smaller one "just because"

I've got enough on the wall, and the contest while fun is not everything when making that choice. Hoping I can hold out until the end of my vacation, or maybe even shotgun season as archery now allowed here as long as you have a valid firearm permit and on private land.

Wishing all of you the best as the rut grows closer. 2 more weeks and all hell breaks loose.

Just had 6 does walk past about 20 minutes ago. Just needed a little more light. Oh well. This will be the third day in a row hunting and my first shot opportunity.

Alright gentlemen!! I am back. Honey moon was great!!! We had a blast for sure. I'm also glad to be back. I am currently sitting on a large fallen down tree to rest. I am doing a run and gun setup tonight. When I'm done sending the message, I will be walking through some oak flats looking for some scraps or a scrap to set up over for tonight.

    I need some help!
How do you guys carry all of this weight on your back??? It is literally killing me. Haha [IMG]

I have my stand, my backpack ( with all my camera gear) and sticks ( 5 sticks because I like the extra height )
It's like 50 pounds and it's too heavy for me, yes I do know I am weak haha but I'm also walking a mile in and out

Aaron...I know it's not much but are bugs that bad that you need the therma cell? An option but how handy are you. I have a piece of property that there are no motorized vehicles allowed so we either use deer cart or home-made cars out of ten speed wheels and a piece of plywood. Easier to pull than carry that weight. Just some food for thought.

I did bring in a deer cart and next time I will definitely drag the weight behind me. I really didn't think about that until I was half way here so I just said i will carry it the whole way this time. As for the thermacell, it is necessary. I have already been attacked by a swarm. Here in Texas, I have had to use my thermacell in December before because of hot weather.
When the weather cools down, I will stop brining it.

Yikes that's awful. We've had some warmer than usual temps and the freaking mosquitoes are enjoying the extra blood sucking. I used mine all weekend.

I had a stud 8 point at 30 yards tonight just before last light. He just never turned broadside. Before that I blew a chance (she busted me) at a nice mature doe and passed on a smaller doe. The wind seemed to change direction at least twice. I was sitting near a small pond. Perfect set up for the warm temp tonight. I have vacation the week of 11/6 through 11/10 and will be out that week in the stand as much as possible. Gonna try at least one all day sit. I haven't had the patience to sit all day before.

Looks like temperatures are going to start getting back to normal. Still no bucks showing up here at home. I'm headed back to Ohio early Saturday morning. Staying until Monday afternoon. Hopefully the 4.5 year olds start moving in the daylight this weekend.

Temps this weekend are looking great, probably won't get to hunt the stand I would prefer as I am sure a few others will be out as well.

Might have to improvise a bit. The time to kill is upon us.

Since it's raining here in Pa today, and I don't have to work, I'll be checking 2 cams. With the leaves being too noisy this past weekend, I didn't want to disturb my area. I'll post anything of interest later on.
