Ahh too much truth in this statement. Im going to go for a run later on and think this through some more. The only downside really is possible lack of women, but the upside is most likely I have the experience of a lifetime and I get some more education.
Fairbanks is about as extreme of weather swings as I know of on this continent. I've seen pictures of someone posing by a thermometer on their porch pointing to -35* and six months later the same thermometer pointed at 90*. That is insane.
Well Missouri isn't too far off from that. I think we got to -18 with windchill and I think its 95 or 97 + humidity. Or with humidity. I dont know, im sitting inside doing homework with AC. What Missouri doesn't have are 23 hours of darkness, or 23 hours of light, or santa clause next door.
That's true temps not windchill.... I'd say it'd be closer to -50* or -60* with windchill at times. I'm not trying to discourage you as I want to head north myself, but Fairbanks is WAAAAAY north and many don't realize what kind of mental toll a month of -20* average temps and only 1 hour of daylight can take on a man. I'd still do it if I were you.... TRUST me when I say summers in Alaska far make up for whatever winter you could throw at me.
Going for it, emailed the guy. Overwhelmingly people said holy **** that is going to be some terrible weather, but go for it. Probably easier for them to say since they're not the one taking the plunge, I really only had one guy say he wouldn't. Ill find out on monday/tuesday on what my chances are of even going there, then probably another 3 weeks past that to see if I do get it.
