Originally Johnny and I were supposed to go down to IL for one final hunt and pick up my fifth wheel in the next week. Unfortunately, he and I didn't discuss the dates and he thought it was this weekend and I thought next. So, he planned something for next weekend and can only go this weekend and I can't.

Jump around a bit here.....My brother was supposed to leave tomorrow to go out west somewhere on a Mountain Lion hunt, but the trip got cancelled today. Instead, he is now planning on going up to my camp in Ontario on Sunday for a week of ice fishing.

Here's my dilema and my options.....

    1. Johnny goes to IL this weekend and I go down mid-next week to bowhunt for a few days and pick up the fifth wheel.

    2. Johnny goes to IL this weekend, hunts, brings the fifth wheel back and I go to camp late Tuesday night for 4 days of wolf hunting and ice fishing.

    3. Johnny goes to IL this weekend, hunts, brings the fifth wheel back and I stay home next week and work.

    What would you do?

Funny you mention this Dan, as I just started to research a Canadian wolf hunt. So obviously my choice would be to go that route. However, I would much rather work than sit in an ice fishing hut right now. Sounds like you'll be hunting either way. Good luck.

I haven't killed a wolf since 2005 and the population is at an all time high. Reese has informed me that there is only around 12" of snow on the ground, so it would be easy getting around and calling.

We don't sit in huts when ice fishing up there.....we hop from lake to lake. Its not your typical boring ice fishing, as its common for us to catch 50+ walleyes in a day easily on a few of the lakes....through the ice. Summer #s are much higher.

A buddy of Johnny's with a good walleye through the ice up there.

Dan that looks like heaven for some reason. And i hate ice fishing. Of course we never catch anything here in ohio doing it on 1 acre ponds.

One fall bowhunting up there I tried calling 2 different times. The first time I called in a pack of 12 to 20 yards (I was in a tree) the second time I had 4 come in to 18 yards (I was on the ground that time) that I could see and probably more behind them. The first group I shot right over one and in the second I had to try to sneek one through some branches as I was busted, but hit a branch and deflected.

If you can get close to them, downwind, and they not know you're there, they'll come to the call on a string.

I was kind of hoping heaven would be warmer than that. Guess, I'm going to have to go with plan B. :D

Dan, I'll go pick up your 5th wheel. Just give me a map to your property.
