You're right. Heaven forbid you have to make a very slight effort for the possibility of free stuff. I like my free stuff to require no effort. Companies these days...they ask so much of us for free stuff.
Exactly...One day these companies will wise up and just start mass mailing out free gifts to random addresses.
If they are doing it for marketing purposes, doesn't it make sense to have it available for all people instead of requiring one to join yet another website aside from their own? I don't mind if they make the announcement on FB but make it to be entered by those whom don't have facebook and don't want a n account
Quick rundown of how facebook marketing works... You get people to "like" your page, however you choose to do so. Some use contests. Once that person has "like"-d your page, your updates/photos/videos will show up in their newsfeed. Any time they comment on it, their "friends" will see it even if they themselves haven't "like"-d the page. So in conclusion, the more people that "like" your page, the more visibility you will get. Its not like these businesses/people are just trying to create more facebook users, or make you jump through hopes for their own entertainment. They are creating exposure for their business...in a simple and free way.
Subscribed to it... got bored with the nonsensical things people talked about and with people I barely knew wanting me to be their new BFF.... unsubscribed. Went bassfishing and bowhunting to make up for my loss.
Bingo. "Like"-ing the page is their call to action. They could have adds all over Facebook all day long but if there is no call to action or way to capture you then there methods are useless. Once "Like"-ed, they have indirect access to your entire social network via you and your news feed. Like on of their pictures? Your friends know. Comment on a status? Your friends know. And, if your friends see that you're active there, they may themselves check it out and become active too. Another method you'll see is companies will like other similar or either competing companies for short time period because they have access to write on their pages. Look at bowhunting.com, it's smart for them to "Like" Lone-Wolf, Scent-Blocker, etc. and write on their wall and comment on statuses because then, anyone else who is on that page, sees "Bowhunting.com Says..." and may want to check it out. Then, if its a competitor, it works the exact same way! Check out this page my friend has built up: http://www.facebook.com/Basketball.Life Close to 210,000 people and, every time he wants to sell a product he markets to that page and has people sign up for his list. Sure 99.5% or 209000 people may find it annoying but if he sells a product for $50 to the 1% (1,000 people) that's a pretty solid income from a Facebook marketing campaign! And, that's just for a guy selling workouts! Imagine what huge corporate companies can do with their resources!
Again, I am very familiar with how it works. As stated previously, I do not have an issue with them marketing on Facebook. It is with them posting on many different places, including their own website, that the contest is being held on facebook. If they are marketing on multiple venues it should be accessible to all without having to join another social network to be eligible to join. Advertise on forums, facebook, etc and refer them to the company site. If it is a contest or sale only for facebook users, then fine. No different than vendors here having specials or contests for users.
Yeah, you've lost me here. So now you saying how companies should advertise? Shouldn't it be up to them? If they believe increasing their facebook following will help their business, who's to say they shouldn't do it? This place is bizarre today.
And we're right back to where I started... It is their choice. Always has been. I am only stating my dislike where they advertise everywhere and say that to enter the contest you have to go to Facebook and "like" them. For me, companies that do such eventually lose my business because I disagree with that. My prerogative to make a statement with how I choose to spend my money. I know many whom do the same. Just like it is yours to support them for doing it.
Listening to the Bob and Tom show they said a significant number of women would give up sex over facebook.
I agree with Pat and Vito. I know some "companies" on Facebook that wouldn't be know or popular without Facebook.
