It seems to me that facebook now is either a drama infested ***** fest or people writing about stuff nobody cares about. "I baked a cake today". "Little Johnny scored 3 points in the pee wee basketball game". I'm so lost today". "Watching Animal House". I guess I'm just an ornery old man because I just don't care. I tried cutting down my Facebook friends to people I actually see on a somewhat regular basis, and actually care about. Then I got the message from the people I cut out , "I see you are not my facebook friend anymore. What did I ever do to you? Go screw yourself." Really? Are you feelings hurt because I'm not your facebook friend anymore? I also hate the obsession to get as many "Friends" as possible. I guess those people use the term "Friend" looser than I do. I call a friend someone that I care about. Not someone I had one class with in High School 16 years ago and have not seen them since. I just don't need it anymore and deactivated my account. Rant over……. Is Facebook becoming annoying to you or do you still enjoy it?
Simple tip to making Facebook less annoying. "Unsubscribe" to people that say annoying or pointless things. If I did not do this to the majority of my Facebook "friends", I wouldn't be able to stand it. This makes it much easier. Basically, my newsfeed is filled with hunting and fishing photos or posts thanks to the unsubscribe feature. If someone says something too dumb, they get blocked. Depending on who it is, they can get a mental warning, but I never forget. Slip up twice and thats it. Besides that, I basically use the chat 98% of the time I'm on there. Makes it easier to keep in touch with friends that now live further away.
Facebook has always been annoying, but lately it's gotten worse. Unfortunately it's super useful for college students such as myself, finding group members in classes and all that, but I try to use it as little as possible for anything other than that. I agree though, it's mainly a drama-infested waste of time. I couldn't give two ***** if someones girlfriend just cheated on them, or if they just just bought a Dr. Pepper from the gas station.
I hardly ever even get on facebook. I think its just a status thing, like people feel better about themselves if they have more friends than someone else. I get on every now and then, just to look at deer people have killed. Just not my cup of tea...
Facebook started with college students only for a reason. It is targeted to and built around people from 18-25. I agree there is nothing wrong with older people getting one these days, but to rant about how annoying it is, is just silly. As was stated, don't visit the site....or block the annoying people from your newsfeed. I personally find it amusing reading peoples idiotic fumings after sporting games/ drunken nights/etc... They annoying people are half of the draw to me, as I enjoy a good laugh at anthers expense.
Scroll over the upper right hand corner of their particular newsfeed. A down arrow will appear. Click that and chose "unsubscribe from X".
I don't think that is the case anymore. Face book is way more than just for 18-25 year olds these days. It's really mind boggling how much of the American business model includes Facebook as a way of advertising. Truly astounding.
Can I ask what the point of having someone as a facebook friend and then unsubscribing from their posts? Seems to me if you don’t want to read their stuff, you should not be friends with them. Help me understand this.
People take friend status way to seriously on FB. I accept anyone I personally know, and if they are annoying I unsubscribe from them. I rarely ever ask someone to be a friend, but I don't weed through people with some holier than thou attitude denying people I know from "being my friend". It seems petty. Accept and block if its that big of a deal to have to scroll over their posts.
I would agree with the acquaintance theory. People sometimes add me, and I have no idea who they are. Then I see we have like one or two friends in common.
I thought it was ridiculous from its inception. "I took a big dump today"....... 7 people like this thumbs up. Who the hell cares? Why do I want to be facebook friends with someone in high school I never talked to that lives 2000 miles away? Didn't like you then, sure don't care to share my day to day life with you now. I think it's structured for people with insecurities, need friends and probably weren't very popular growing up.
I actually deleted my account a year ago, still some friends at work talk about what I missed on their conversation. I really don't care, I see you at work??? Why talk on FB too?? Haha but now it's a joke that I don't have a FB account, ps I'm not old either.....well I don't think?? Some of my family members are the worst with status updates....it just got annoying.
