According to the hiker we passed on the mountain he said the "hardcore" guys use it and he hated it so we all put some on and told him to have a nice hike as we passed. Good thing Justin had enough for everybody. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
I tend to use face paint a lot during the early season when its warm out. As it gets cooler I will switch over to a face mask.
I'm a face paint guy all season long. With a head-net, I always feel like I have something obscuring my peripherals. When it's cold out, I don't like to have anything covering my ears and impeding my hearing. Typically, I just suck it up and let my ears freeze.
When I was younger face paint would make me break out... so seemed to be a no go... As i've gotten older I substitute Red facial hair ....
I use cork. Burn the end of a wine cork and rub it on as camo. Washes off easy. It's just black but with my beard it works for me.
I think it's more of a mental thing with most guys. Not totally necessary, but it kinda gets you in the right state of mind, like putting on war paint and going to battle. Probably gives a confidence boost that you are invisible, and confidence in the stand is a good thing.
I use both but prefer paint! Just got my CamoFX in Lost Camo! Stuff is great! Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
I use Cabelas full spandex face mask (Mossy Oak Breakup), I like for my eyes to be the only human part of me able to be seen, it makes me feel hidden from the naked eye, but I am more ninja than warrior. Plus, I hunt mostly in the morning and I don't like taking the time to put on the face paint on the cool dark mornings. I think it is more about personal preference and comfort, both will give you more cover, so try the face paint out in the field and see what works best for you.
Since we are talking about face paint, if you are going to use it, use it correctly. Not like the jackasses you see on tv with black "antlers" covering their cheeks, etc. There is an art to camoflage, and every military guy probably chuckles watching the knuckleheads on major league bowhunter and all of the other shows because they use black too much and all wrong. The point of camo is to break up the outline of the face, not to create contrast between TWO outlines on one person.
If I have a ginger (red) goatee can I use face paint? Im not shaving it thats forsure, and always worried it would stand out. I know they are color blind and all, but red pops a bit so wasnt sure.
The duck men gotta get some in theirs with all that beard and all that paint Sent from my pocket computer using Tapatalk
