I wouldn’t. I’d wait for it to turn. I’ve never even considered taking a straight on shot. I have taken a few hard quartering-to shots, and even those are frowned upon by lots of folks.
How close, what broadhead, how confident are you, alert animal? Lot goes into play. I'd aim at the white patch if under 20 yards already drawn and pin was there and there's no more waiting..
That is a no shot situation for me too. Not enough room for error if they react to the bow and move a bit before the arrow arrives. They do that with high frequency.
I think I've done it 3 or 4 times in my life. It's extremely effective, but like what others have said alot can go wrong. Last buck I did it to I was on the ground level with him at about 15 yards. He dropped right on his face and died there. But I did lose one buck before. Same hunt as above. It was in a open field. The buck ran 75 yards and dropped dead in the field. In my mind I swear I saw him go in the woods. I searched that woods and never found him. I walked within 10 yards multiple times not knowing he was laying right in the field. Found him a couple days later when the buzzards were on him. The problem was there was no blood because it all stayed in the chest cavity, no exit hole. Not sure I would do it again, but if i did, it would have to be a very specific situation. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I know a few people that have taken that shot with success recently. It's something I have never even considered doing.. but it's in the back of my mind now as an option at least. When truly in the moment, its hard to believe I would actually take the shot but you never know.
tried it once in Kentucky years ago, 15 yards from a ground blind. About the time I touched the release he dropped his head trying to figure out what I was and I hit him right between the eyes, He dropped in his tracks but It convinced me to never take that shot again.
Obvious answer is to wait until the deer does a 180° turn, then you have a bullseye to aim at. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
NEVER ever take a head shot, straight down shot, straight away shot !! only a fool does that, heck even 1/4ing to shots can result in bad hits and lost animals ... if I cant get a good angle and a makeable shot within my effective range, the deer walks and wins that round .... that is why it is called hunting ...
