I have never worried to much about FOC as I never built my own arrows. Just ordered my arrows to the length I wanted and already fletched and insert installed. I shot quit a few deer this way and did great. I was reading a lot lately about FOC and got curious on what I was shooting. I did the calculator thing online and I found my FOC to be 7.50. Very low as to what I have been reading. I have shot big ass western whitetail and buried the nock at 40 yards and pass throughs at closer ranges. Am I missing something?

    What's your stats.
    Speed
    Weight
    Length
    Draw weight
What arrow are you shooting (GPI)

7% seems very low maybe it's right maybe it's not.

Easton says FOC between 7-15% is fine .... I like to be around 9%-12% which works out great for me ..... if you have a heavy rear of the arrow, that will toss the FOC off some .. (wrap/heavy vanes/lighted nock), then you must offset that with more front weight, which then may decrease the spine, I like to be a tad stiff with spine esp. when shooting fixed heads ... I'm at 9.5% right now, I added a 20gr. FACT to my Velocity 300 inserts as the lighted Glory Nock is 25 grs... for my back up bow, I'm closer to 13% as I have 50 gr inserts in the 340's along with the 100 gr head .. as long as the bow tunes good, same POI with FP's/BH's dont sweat it, if your using a 100 gr head, a 125 gr head will help a tad and shouldnt screw up the spine, unless you were already border line with it .... ... dont get carried away and chase your tail so to speak ... .. if your getting good arrow flight, groups etc., hunt with what you have this season then for next increase the FOC, just dont get carried away with it as some do ..

Thanks for that info. I am not to worried as I have great arrow flight and groups. Killed a few bruisers with this setup. I never really thought about FOC. I use to shoot a different set up where I was around 10% FOC. didn't think 2.5 % less FOC would be a big difference.

I wouldn’t worry unless you struggle to get broad heads to tune and fly well.

how much more weight do you think I need? I can put some washers behind the broadhead or screw in weight. I would like to get a little more FOC. Read where 15% is the magic number.

use the Goldtip FOC calculator, put in all your info then change the tip weight a little at a time and see where your FOC goes ... as I said earlier, add to much, and the spine will weaken... btw, I dont think there is a 'magic' number .... but there again, any thing around the 10% is good ... I'm happy at 9.5% ....

So I went to 125 gr heads. Brought my FOC to 10.714%. Total arrow weight to 4390 gr. I noticed deeper penetration into the target at 20 yds. As I moved back, I am shooting tighter groups. I am very pleased. Tomorrow Is the first day of the Pennsylvania archery season. Just turned 60 last month and I still feel like a kid getting all excited. One of the things I sure do miss is my Dad coming in to wake me up. I never really slept anyway. Now I do cuz i need it. Thanks Dad for bringing hunting into my life at an early age. Even before I could carry a bow of gun. I would follow in his footprints and then sit in the stand with him. Always sat on the ground and he would bring newspapers to sit on. On cold mornings I would sit on his lap and he would open that big black and red Woolrich around me. I remember it like yesterday... Thank guys for all your insight and help.

a lower foc doesnt mean you cant get pass throughs

higher foc (and momentum) just increases the chances of better penetration/pass through

especially if you hit something hard

at what FOC percent can one not get pass thrus ?? .... and what chart shows this ?? .... as I said, stay around 10-15% and you'll not have problem .. a tad higher for some, but it isnt needed unless your a traditional shooter ..
