What kind of luck have you guys had out of the "newer" ones?

I'm looking at an 05' and 06' and have been doing some reading, I would love to hear what you guys think?

I'm ready to get a nice vehicle, and this is the way I'm leaning, I found a pretty good deal on an 05' FX4 SuperCrew with 45k miles.

This is purchase is a culmination of the money I have, Christmas present, insurance money from my car (that mom wrecked). So to be fair, she's helping me tremendously with this new truck, especially since I have been without a vehicle since Septemberish. Which caused me to miss a few good hunting opportunities, but oh well! This was also, what forced me to sell the Jeep. It was just too expensive for me to drive back and forth to school. I had the setup with the car and the Jeep. The car was paid for got 30+ mpg, perfect for trips or any extended driving, and the Jeep was just plain awesome.

Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say. I'll be more than happy to look at some pictures of your guys trucks too, it doesn't have to be an f150!

Here's what was left of my car, I'm not sure if I ever posted pictures. (July 08') This happened while I was at the Classic. Mom was in the hospital for 17 days.

    And the ride in question...

I drove a 97 F-150 for 8 years. It was a good truck for me but is was a gas hog. Luckily gas wasn't too expensive back then.

I have driven Chevy's for the past 5 years and like them.

I am a Chevy guy who is thinking of switching to a Tundra, but that is a sweet looking ride......for a Ford.

What's the sticker on that rig, Matt? It's certainly a good looking truck.

I bought two trucks in the last 2 weeks. I bought my son a '99 model Tacoma (TRD model) ex-cab 4x4 (his Christmas present)......and I bought myself an '03 Tundra (TRD) 4x4.

In doing my searching, I found that these trucks (much to my surprise) can be bought at really fair prices. The body style I purchased is one body style "old" (revamped in '07). So this body style can be bought (as stated) really reasonably.

Good luck with your search.....OR...if you're set on the Ford, that one looks like a really nice unit.

    Merry Christmas.

    When I bought it............

Now...added step bars; New tires; tonneau cover; husky liners; bug shield; seat covers; etc...

My thoughts EXACTLY. I love Chevy's, that's what I originally wanted. I have never been a huge F-150 fan but I'm a big fan of this one though. Not sure why.

Jeff, this is the thing that means the most to me, it really does. I'm sitting here, at home, with her for Christmas. I couldn't imagine not being able to do this, I'm thankful, I really am.

As far as sticker, I think sticker is like 22,900. NADA is 21, 900 or somewhere around that. I can get it for around 18k.

EDIT: This is not a set in stone decision for me. I need a vehicle, Mom wants me to get a nice vehicle. She's insisting on it, and is helping me to the fullest extent. I'm going to be getting some sort of a full sized truck soon.

I've owned 3 F-150's and loved them all.

Currently have an 06 with a 5.4 and 72K on the odometer. Haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood). Runs great, has plenty of power, and rides great too. When I wear this one out, I'll be getting another one to replace it. I'm a Ford owner for life.

You all can keep your foreign trucks.

Thanks Justin, this is what I'm wanting to hear!

This one also has the 5.4 (I don't think the FX-4 comes in anything else)

I love the interior on these trucks, this one is the center shift, not the shift on the column. I love that. I'm not a big fan of bench seats in the front.

My "foreign truck" was manufactured right here in the good 'ol USA....by US workers.

Solid truck, underpowered and not the greatest fuel mileage. Have you looked into the newer 05 and up Tacomas? The new tundra's would be my top choice, but they're a bit pricey still.

Owned Fords all my life Matt. The only thing that ticks me off some Is the gas mileage. From what I hear though none of the "big" trucks get much better or about the same when It comes to mileage. Go for It, I bet you'll like It!!

I have never owned a truck that was not a Ford. Other than a few minor problems, I have had really great luck. My last full size was a 04 F150 FX4. I loved that truck. It got 18.9 average over the year that I drove it. It hauled 4 guys to Oklahoma on a hog hunting trip and all their gear. Plenty of room for that stuff. Also, plenty of power and it always hauled what I needed hauling. Only reason I am not driving it now, I went back to college and could save the money by driving something smaller.

Oh, and a Ford Ranger does not get any better mileage than the F150. Go for it.

Do you know where your truck was built? The F-150 I use to own was built in Canada. They also manufacture them in Mexico.

I have an '05 FX4. 80k trouble free miles. Gas milage is kind of low...... 15-16 in the summer and 13 or less in the winter, depending on how much I use 4wd. Other than that, it's a great truck. BTW, it's my 3rd one.

That looks nice and a good price too. If I found one like that, I'd be driving it. I have been looking at them also. I haven't found one that cheap yet. The only thing I didn't like is it seems like there is a lot of Plastic on the inside.

The last F-150 I had was a '86. I bought it in '88 and lost it in '06. It was still doin' fine. I've had fords and chevys and had good ones and bad ones in both.

Good luck with whatever you decide. and glad your Mom is OK.

I have an 04 FX4 Supercab and have loved it since I bought it. I thought about getting the new Raptor coming out, but mine is going strong and only has 72k on the odometer.

Back in the July of 2008, I bought an 06 XLT Crewcab with the 5.4 with 28K miles for right at $16k. Got a hell of a deal on it because gas prices had truck prices at rock bottom. After some upgrades in tires, slight lift kit, window tints, and exhaust I ended up with just shy of $17.5 K in it. Nothing but the routine oil changes since then and I have 54k miles on it now. Great truck, probably drive it till it hits 100k and then trade in again. I've only had one truck before this to compare it to (2001 GMC), but it is far and away a better truck than the prior one.
