What's the importance of shooting with your dominant eye rather than dominant hand?

I'm right handed, but left eye dominant shoot a gun either way, obviously you can't a bow....my bow is left handed, shot my buddies RH bow the the other day, first time I've shot right handed in several years, and it felt normal. Truly think I could shoot either way without any difference. I just know it's usually easier to buy and sell RH bows...

Just curious what some thoughts are on the topic....

I am right handed and left eye dominant. I shoot right handed and have to close my left eye. They say I should switch to left handed but haven't yet. I am by no means a great shot on targets but seem to be able to get-er-done on deer :D

I shot right handed for years. I'm left eye dominant. I know a heck of an archer that shoots this way. (Matt/PA) In 2007, I made the switch to lefty. It was way more natural and not having to make sure I had one eye closed helped too. I've shot and killed deer both ways. If you're gonna get real serious about your shooting, make the switch. If' you're a weekend warrior who hunts 10 times a year, keep your right handed gear.

I've taught dozens of people how to shoot in my chosen career paths. If the shooter was right handed but left eye dominate, then we'd make them shoot left handed. I totally agree with what Ben/PA said about changing your gear in regards to how often you hunt. Good luck!

Using your dominant eye is more important than using your right or left hand. The eye that is dominant will try and take over if you are shooting with the opposite hand. Meaning that you may try to look over the string to use your dominant eye to shoot rather than looking straight down the string through your peep and to your sight. Some it may not matter, but if you are dominant in one eye and use the opposite hand then you should go with your dominant eye. It may be awkard at first, but start with a low draw weight and work your way up as you become more familiar to using your other hand.

I switched as well (RH, but left eye dominant), and it was relatively effortless, and I enjoy not having to have my eyes fighting each other when shooting RH with both eyes open. Would I have been fine not switching? Absolutely. However, I definitely feel that I've benefited in the long run in terms of accuracy.

OK . . . For the guys that have switched How many years did you shoot "wrong" handed before you switched ? I am at 28 now and think it would be hard to switch

I'm in the same situation. I'm left handed, but right eye dominant. I can shoot RH very proficiently. I have not made the switch yet. I think I'm gonna trade in my back up LH bow in the off season and pick up a used RH bow. If it's more comfortable and I shoot just as well I might switch.

I was 23 when I switched...you'll be fine. I was shooting for 9 years before I switched...no problems. I've been shooting left handed now for four years.

I think hes saying he has been shooting for 28 years. Not that he is 28 years old.

Yeah I guess you're right. I really think I'm getting dumber, and fast. Either way, I really don't think it would make much difference. Whether you've shot for 9 years or 28 , habits (both good and bad) have had plenty of time to set in. I had no problems breaking them and in fact it gave me the opportunity to restablish more good habits.

Lol. I am going to switch next time I buy a new bow. I might as well do it since I am only 21 currently.

    X2 for me.

I consider myself a rookie in the world of arvhery and bowhunting, but i dont think you can go wrong if the way you shoot feels comfortable and is consistantly accurate. Find a setup and a routine that produces good results for you and stick with it.

I'm RH & LED. I grew up shooting right handed. Always have just squinted my left eye. When I bought my Drenalin in '07 I looked at possibly shooting LH. Problem is, afters years and years of fighting my eye dominance, I've actually become cross eye dominant. Either way, both eyes fight each other. So, I elected to stay with my strong hand.
