Ok. Been looking around at bows. Not in the market but I like to look and go shoot one's with specs that intrigue me. On to my question. What's an extruded riser? Is there an advantage machined risers have? Machined typically seem to be more expensive. Not always but most. Would there be a reason to not buy a bow with an extruded riser?. All other things being equal, the machined riser will the stronger of the two. True metal extrusion produces very strong materials, as the process forms the granular structure of the metal into the shape of the finished product. Extruded bolts (most grade 8 or better) have a granular structure that increases longitudinal strength. I believe most entry-level risers are made of cast aluminum. Cast aluminum has a random granular structure and is weaker than an aluminum riser machined from rolled aluminum stock. A good analogy is to consider the difference between MDF particle board and construction lumber.
