ok, iv been needing a climber for about 3 years now since i started hunting by myself. "mr. big proud 13 year old" ,but i used my brothers "summit viper classic" and too big,too heavy, not fun hikeing more than a couple acres (being my sise) so iv been looking for a lite compact climber for the upcomeing deer season within reasonable price consitering my dad has the money..... any suggestions??????
Unfortunately climbers are heavy in general. This is the lightest climbing stand that I'm aware of... Let us know what you find. http://www.summitstands.com/catalog.aspx?catid=openshot deluxe
thanks thats a big help but i was wondering a bout a lap bar that goes across the front of it, for gun season? mabey a removable one?????
Not the cheapest, but definetly the lightest climbing stand on the market.... http://www.timbertalloutdoors.com/babylite.htm
If you're not really fond of carrying the weight, how comfortable are you climbing??? Not trying to be the funsucker here, but I think SAFETY should be the FIRST concern, and in all honesty, a lot of the really LIGHT treestands aren't the "SAFEST." I hunt only from and open front stand, and I like it, but I know a lot of people don't feel comfortable OR safe in one. I believe what's most important in a treestand beyond "How much does it weigh???" is "How stable and comfortable is it???" and "How easily/well does it climb???" You're still young, you're still growing, and you've got lots of time to find that "perfect" treestand. If you have one now, and it feels a bit too heavy, keep using it, it will make you stronger!!!
Besides the timbertall listed, I think treewalker makes a pretty light one too. Ol man has a lite model, but again you don't get light & cheap at the same time. I am all for using the lightest climber I can find.
you might not get the weight out of this one that your looking for but its close to your price range you listed. http://www.loggybayou.com/2006pages/megatransformer.htm The prices are at the bottom of the page in TechSpecs. But I use the Summit Open shot Delux and love it but like OH Bowhunter said its not for all. I know that this dont sound the best but you might want to check out Ebay also sometimes ppl hit good deals there.
thanks man looks like a good stand, and good advice on it makes me stronger but im worried about sweating up a storm going through the woods and the down wind bucks staying their distance
Even without the sweat, the downwind bucks are going to stay their distance. Take your time, do things right. Light stands come at a cost, $. I always laugh when I hear someone wanting to lighten their stand only because of my own situation. My stand I consider is light, hell I throw nearly a 40 lb pack on it. If I wanted light, I'd lighten what I take with me. My stand itself feels like nothing on my back. And I also agree with OHbowhntr
cmon dude, man up and carry that sucka!!!! :D when i was a 142lb weakling (19 and stood 6-1 at the time) I had to hump a full pack, an m60 machine gun and 500rds of ammo as far as 15 miles... GOD that sucked don't worry, it'll get easier each time you do it... most midweight stands seem to be in the 28-30ish lb range... like rob/pa says, skimp on your other stuff as that is probably where you're carrying easier/cheaper to drop weight... so unless you've got a big fat wallet you're gonna have to find a way to carry it in... at 13 as you say, i'm betting you're bank acct doesn't support that kind of weight... either way, glad to see you're makin the effort, this place is a great resource
How about a light fixed position stand and climbing sticks?Probably a bit lighter weight than the lighest climbers available and a lot more versatility. You don't have to look for limb less tree's.I have Lone Wolf's lighest fixed position stand and four set's of sticks and I would take it over a climber every day of the week.
Just lift weights or run with it on your back, not only will you get in better shape but you will get faster and stronger. It's just like football pads basically, never ran with any weight besides pads.
