I need a recommendation before I purchase one please. I have read a couple reviews on bestbuy.com for seagate and western digital for 500 and 1 tb and they were not good. I know with like any product you are going to have a few bad apples but help me out here. Thanks, T
I just purchased the 320gb WD My Passport yesterday and this thing is great. It's small and fits in my pocket and large enough for all my files. Peak- let me know before you purchase. I can probably get it for you cheaper then retail.
We use WD MyBooks here and for the most part, they work great. I have a 500 GB and a 640 GB at home and they work perfectly. Hard drives aren't exactly rocket science, especially if you're just storing pictures, music, etc. on them. No matter what type or brand of hard drive you have ALWAYS make sure you're backing up your data. Every brand of drive has failures and when they happens and you don't have a backup, you may shed a few tears.
Great points JZ. I assume your backed up data is at a offsite facility? Ferg get me a price on 500GB and 640GB please. Thx
Any perticular brand or model? If you search CDW find the ones you are interested in and send me the links. I will get it cheaper for you.
I got the 1 TB Western Digital MyBook....works well. Like Justin said, I keep the original copy on my computer's HD and then store a copy of the file I want to backup on the external HD. So far, so good! Can't complain.....I really need to backup the files again, but I am trying to find an easier way than worrying about transferring over 50 Gigs of home videos to DVD. I may break down and buy another smaller external HD for simply irreplaceable content like videos of the family and photos. The 1 TB wasn't too outrageous in price considering what I would lose if my HD crashed without backing up the files......
If you're not too concerned with fast write speeds, any good reputable company is ok. WD is one of my favorites. If you ARE concerned about fast write speeds, etc, it's a another story.
