I've received a handful of emails wondering if the Deer Contest could be extended through the end of the month. I know there are still a number of states that seasons are still going, especially those in the South. So I thought I would bring it to the captains and let them vote. I personally don't care one way or the other. I don't want to see it go on forever, but I'm fine with pushing it out another 16 days to give those southern boys a better shot. So over the next two days, lets have the captains place their vote. Please include your vote and the team you're captain of. Vote "Close the Contest" or "Extend the Contest" If it is closed, all entries past midnight EST will be deleted and the results will be tabulated. If it's extended, then the Score Card will close on the night of the 31st. Thanks guys, Fitz
Captain Team 16 As much as I would love to see it extended for my own benefit, I have to say much like the 2nd buck counts for a doe debate early on in the contest, it ends as originally set. Next year by all means, but the rules were set well before contest sign up. Close the contest
Captain for Team Twenty "American Stickers" I really do not care much, but if someone has put in the time to be active on their team bored then they should be able to enter deer for their entire season just as I did. (extend the season)
Captain for 34, just passin thru I say rules are rules. I still have at least one hunter with season left, but pretty sure he is on my side there as well. I believe it would be a good addition to next year, but this season is over per the rules and I think that its only fair. Again, hope to see it added to next season. My vote: Close the contest.
You can't change the rules at this point IMO. But would think that would be a good idea for future years.
Team 29 The rules were set ahead of time so I think it should stay as is for the completion of the 2012 contest. However, I do think the rules should be changed for the 2013 contest to extend it to the end of January.
Rules were laid out in advance. Shut 'er down. Next year, consideration for a later end date can be given. BTW - Team 3 Captain
I say extend it to the end of the month. We can just say we are Democrats and the rules don't concern us. In my opinion, It's not fair to end the contest before the season ends. What if, and I mean what if, someone was serving our country and was stationed overseas and is just returning to contribute to his or hers team? In the words of the late Colonel Sanders "I'm too drunk to taste the chicken".
Captain team 10. Close the contest. I would have to agree if there are rules to be changed, they should be changed before the contest started or after the contest ends. Amend for next season. I would be fine with it running throughout all open deer seasons. For example, if the first opening day of any deer season opens on August 1st the contest should start that date and close the last day of the latest deer season that is open such as say Jan 31st. Seasons such as NC's Urban archery would not count as it is not part of our regular season. In short shut it down and make changes for next season. It's like that kid that keeps changing the rules in the middle of the game. Eventually no one wants to play the game with that kid. We don't want that.
Team 11 Captain! I also agree that the rules were set so close! I also think that it should go towards end of February but that can be voted on later or set for next year.
Extend it. I think if those who had seasons start prior to the contest start of Oct 1st like Wisconsin they were getting points before it started. Closing it before several season ends isnt fair. If it ends then all deer taken before Oct 1 shouldnt count. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
Captain Team 5 Ill go on the side with the most people. I really don't care too much, but it would be unfair to those in first through third place.
Let me add I feel like the rule change about the second buck set the precedent for rules being changed during the contest. Carry on.
