Very corrupt system. This book is awesome and explains the corruption that is all BCS. I would highly recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/Death-BCS-Def...onship/dp/1592405703/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I "get" that the system isn't perfect (or even good). But, can anyone explain HOW the rankings have the two teams I cited where they are, currently?
The BCS is good for one thing - TV/Radio/Forum ratings! A playoff would kill this annual season long "Buzz"
I thought OSU was ranked 5th? The BCS computer formula takes account for strength of schedule. So the teams point total in the computer changes after every game. It goes up if you beat a quality opponent and goes down if you beat or lose to a non quality opponent. As for the rankings now. Boise's toughest games are their early season non conference games like VT and such. OSU and other big conference teams are now just getting into the heart of their schedule. So pretty much every game a big conference team wins now that they are in conference play will cause their computer score to go up, while teams like Boise and TCU are playing low quality opponents their computer ranking will go down. Even if they win big, the computer does not take margin of victory into account.
I don't even have to root for who ever _ichigan plays BTW what do you think about the matchup with Bama next year in Cowboys stadium?
So, Scott......are you (and the BCS) implying that BSU's SOS (so far) outweighs OSU's? It's the only thing I can think of. And, to me, it's pretty telling.
Boise played two ranked opponents thus far, OSU only one so far. So yes, so far Boise's SOS would rank higher based on computer rankings. Thus far Boise's SOS would rank pretty high. Very few big time schools play ranked opponents through the first 4 or 5 weeks of the season. You will see all computer rankings start to change fairly drastically now that big programs are within their conference schedule. OSU, sooners, ducks, braska etc etc computer ratings will all increase (with wins of course) while Boise and TCU's will drop each week (win or lose).
So.....if everyone wins out.....would you think OSU's SOS would warrant them to stay atop the other polls? I have a feeling (can't know the final ranking, of course) their SOS is gonna NOT stack up well (compared to others).
It is impossible for everyone to win out, for example LSU plays Auburn. Lets say the top 5 all win out, OSU, Ducks, Sooners will all overtake Boise and TCU on the computer rankings. From there it is all up to the coaches and harris poll voters to determine who plays in the big game. The computer is only 1/3 of the equation in the rankings. It will take a loss or a couple really bad games for OSU to drop out of the top spot of the two human polls. OSU controls their own destiny, as does Oregon. All Boise can do is sit back and wait for some help (losses to OSU and the Ducks for sure). Even if there were three unbeaten teams at the end of the year with OSU being one of them and was left out of the big game, I wouldn't complain about it. It is what it is and the pollsters will put who ever they believe should be there.
To add, the Big 10 is the second best conference this year behind the SEC and you keep talking about a lack of SOS for OSU. Who do you feel has a higher SOS who should be there instead of OSU at the end of the year? Again, assuming the current top 5 stay unbeaten.
Right now I believe they are a top 2 team. I wouldn't complain if Boise was ahead of them. They are a very good team, something you are unable to admit. All Boise does is keep winning no matter who lines up on the other side of the ball from them. I am not big on the Ducks like most are, I need to see more out of the Sooners.
I'm not unable to admit they're (OSU) a good team. They're a good team. But, you REALLY think there's only one team better than them, right now? And, you think that team is BSU?
I don't think Boise is a better team. I said I wouldn't be upset if they were ranked higher. Boise has passed every test over the past few years. No other program has passed all of their tests. So until someone knocks them off, they have my respect. OSU has the #6 scoring offense and #3 total defense in all of college football. I'm not sure what you are looking for, They are ranked properly.
