Do any of you guys use expandables through the shoot through netting on your ground blinds? I was planning on using a certain 2 blade expandable, but I don't know if it would open as soon as it hits the net. Any thoughts?

It will open. Shoot through mesh is not meant for the use of expandables. You'll have to hunt with the window open, or pick a new bh I'm afraid.

I wish I could remember his name, but there was a guy on HNI that posted some pictures last fall of deer he killed with Rage BHs shot thru mesh windows. He used a rubber band to keep them together and had some great success with it. I meant to contact him to find out exactly how he was doing it, but never got around to it. So, it can be done, but with modifications to the BH.

I killed a deer with a rage three blade shooting through mesh, but the shot either deflected, or the blades opened causing bad flight, because I didn't hit anywhere close to the vital area. Either way the deer didn't go 40 yards, I must have destroyed a cluster of main arteries cause that thing bled like it was dumping ten gallons three feet wide. I will have to use different bhs. if I want to use the mesh covering. But I ain't about to use anything but rage for all other situations.

    That would be me!!:d

Yes I shoot the 2 blade rage thru mesh after putting a small rubber band around the middle of the blades. I even shoot them that way when not shooting thru mesh.

Dang it why did I open this thread? its got me rethinking my whole approach to turkeys. I was planning on shooting 2217 aluminums with 125gr Outback XL heads and shooting through the mesh. I still have a few 2 blade Rages lying about and may just have to retune back to my Beman MFX and 100gr Rage. I like the idea of a big expandable but wanted to keep the mesh closed. Hmmmm.........gotta set up the blind tomorrow.......Hmmmm...........how will the Rhinehart work with the Rages.........Hmmmm........should I resharpen the Rages or leave them just the slightest bit dull to keep it i the bird? Hmmm...........

I have shot several types of mechanicals through the mesh of several different brands of blinds, never once have I had any ill effect or seen them open. I've shot Eastman ST3's, Eastman Silvertips, NAP Shockwaves, and the Crimson Talon Cuda all through mesh and never had 1 issue. My experience is that as long as the tip of the head comes in contact with the mesh before the blades do... you'll be okay.

If you're using it for turkey, the mesh is totally not necessary.

I shoot the Rocky Mountain Snyper as well as some fixed however, I would NOT shoot my Snypers through the mesh. While testing them to see if I'd accept them in my arsenal (one time antimechanicalist) I found the Snypers would open on paper. I'm sure they will open on the mesh. I love the RM Snyper.

I don't think its a good idea to shoot through mesh with expandables. I've never tested this theory, but it just sounds wrong. I would never even try it, but now I want to! Maybe i'll try it today......
