100g Thunderheads - Fixed " Grimm Reapers Expandable The Rages are too CHEEZEY.... Blades too thin and very sensitive....you really need a rubberband on outside the o'ringy deally don't cut it.... They leave tremendous entrance and exit holes when they work! I just think they are cheezey as H3ll!!!! First time I used the arrow hit deer and a loud ping....the roll pin came out no blades ever found deer managed 30 yds. I was not impressed!!! All of you rage users listen up CHEESE in CHEEZEY out! My two lira! Try these or ask a buddy that uses them! Grimm Reapers hunt all year with literally one Broadhead...Blades almost 300% THICKER = BETTER!!!! Spitfire's similar to the Grimm Reapers!! I have got to figure out how to bring myself to life!
My Copy Paste'r is malfunctioning!!! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/Lieutelant/Emoticons/brucelee.gif Then u show up! I am soooo Jealous sp ck pls? Thanks! Pat
For me. Expanables NAP Spitfire - lots of deer never an issue Rage - 1st deer, looked lke all the photos you see with big hole. 2nd deer, hit a rib going in. No pass through. Head was mushed. I will never shoot a Rage again. Fixed NAP Thunderhead - shot lots of deer no issues NAP Hellrazor - shot 6 deer no issues Tru-Fire T1 - Shot 1 deer no issues. I think this is the best repaceable blade broadhead. I am no "expert" whatever that is. I am just a gut that likes to shoot broadheads and tries a new kind or two every year. Many of the last years I went back to hunt with the Hellrazors. On someone's (I trust) recommendation I tried the T1 last December and was happy. I have tried about 20 different broadhead in the last 6-7 years. I recommend what works for me: NAP Spitfire NAP Hellrazor Trufire T1 Ones I tried in the last few years and did not like: Rage Nap Nitron & Crossfire Slick Trick & Grizz Tricks G5 Montec G5 Tekan Magnus Stinger Phathead (great head but whistled)
As many have said, mostly about shot placement. The BH's are a personal preference thing. I shoot G5 Montecs and Rage 2 blades, but will be trying hte 2 blade bloddrunner this year on my sons recommendation (he's 15 and KNOWS they're the best thing ever). Good luck.
I too like the New Archery Products broadheads, since I seen what the 2 blade Bloodrunners did on the 3 turkeys I shot this Spring (Episode 3 Bowhunt or Die webisode), and the 2 does I shot with the Thunderhead Edge broadheads 2 days ago. One is mechanical and one isn't, they both fly good out of my set-up. The main thing I can tell you is, whatever type of broadhead you shoot, just make sure you shoot it before you hunt, to see that it is hitting where you want. Some broadheads will fly different than your field points, mainly some fixed blade broadheads. Good luck this Fall!
I like the idea of mechanical heads and have tried them before. One time they didn't open correctly and haven't tied since - though may be open to trying some bloodrunners at some point... Seems like I always go back to the 100gr muzzeys which have never let me down... Pretty much any fixed blade BH is going to work, blade sharpness is the key...
jerry, as far as recommendations go i would not buy the crimson talons. i shot them a few years ago and they flew great, but of the 3 deer i shot with them blood was minimal to almost none. all 3 deer required the assistance of my hunting dog to help find them. i've been using the bloodrunners since and haven't looked back. reason for choosing them over rage was after hearing a buddy went through 2 packages of them in one season because of the blades breaking on ribs/shoulderblades. never shot the grim reapers or the rocky mtns myself but have heard good things about them. it all comes down to what you feel the most confident shooting though.
I've been using 3 blade, 125 gr Muzzy broadheads for years. They're tough, dependable, make a nice hole and they don't cost the insane prices of many of the new-fangled heads.
You can buy replacement blades, you don't have to buy a whole new broadhead each time a blade bends or breaks. Thats what I do, but I have only had to replace the blades once. I take the used blades out and resharpen them and reuse them.
