Cant answer your question about the weight you are shooting , but i like the slick tricks real well and my son uses them drawing 56/57 # ! They fly really well !

I know several people that shoot rage and rage 40ke at poundage's as low as 38# and 25" DL. They have all killed numerous game animals including deer and bear and turkeys with no problem what so ever. I myself am also a big rage fan. Really like the rear deploying blades which prevent bounce out or deflections on steep angle shots.

personally, i probably wouldnt go with an expandable at those specs. I would look into magnus stingers, nap hellrazors, g5 strikers, or slick tricks. They are all very dependable fixed heads that would work well out of your set up.

I’m no broad head expert, but when I started hunting I killed several deer with similar poundage and draw length using the old NAP shockwaves. Honestly nothing says piece of mind like a muzzy 3 blade or slick trick. They just do what they do period.

My set up is very similar to yours. I only shoot fixed blade.

At those specs I would shoot a fixed blade, but if you are going to shoot an expandable, I would shoot the NAP BloodRunners.

I would shoot fixed blades as well. I shoot 70 lbs, 30" draw and I stopped using Rages just because the "what if" factor. Never had any problems, but I didn't want to have one and screw myself losing a deer. I'm going to use Slick Trick Magnums this season.

Don't most states have a minimum draw weight on a compound bow to harvest big game? For some reason 40# minimum is stuck in my head...38 lbs seems very light for deer/bear with a rage. I could be wrong tho...

My girlfriend had a complete pass through on a black bear and a deer last year using the Rage 40KE. She draws 40# not sure what her draw length is.

    Fixed blades.

I draw 29", 63#, and shoot Easton Axis arrows and still feel that my setup is too light for expandables....which is why I just sold all my Rages on AT.

Some do some don't. I know a lot of people (mainly kids and women) who shoot between 30-40 lbs and all have good luck as long as they put it in the right place and know the limits. Personally I wouldn't go bear hunting that light but I've seen enough deer taken with light set ups that I wouldn't be against it. It doesn't take that much to put down a deer if you hit it right.

Anyway back to your main question, I would go fixed blade cut on contact. Probably the NAP Hellrazor or Slick Trick Razor Trick. Trophy tips would work to at that poundage as well. I just kind have my own little rule about if its less than 55lb it gets COC on the end.

No. You are intorducing an opportunity for failure for no good reason. A quality fixed blade is always a better choice.

Go with the shuttle it just rips through deer. My girlfriend shoots around 40lbs and that shuttle has been awesome.
