Don't feel bad....lol. I probably ate 600cal's to get ready for the ride. And, the night's still young!
raceway--I had the best upper body workout in a long time yesterday. I started to feel like the machine I used to be last night. It has taken me dang near two months to create a strength and conditioning base. I did not realize how out of shape I had really become over the past 4-5 years. Todays result=me sore as all hell. Jeff, your talks of those fat burning bike rides are starting to sway me towards getting out on my mountain bike and riding for an hour or so to burn off some calories. It seems like a good way to get in shape, burn some fat, and not stress my joints.
I started out on a mtn. bike, Brett. STILL intimidates me....lol. I went down 5X in ONE afternoon. TOTALLY different workouts (trail vs. road). Trails are like sprints. Road is like a long foot race.
Finally a break from the heat, what a difference running in 15 degree cooler temps can do. I felt like superman tonight. Ran "barefoot" and am loving it more each time. Still building up my lower legs, though.
I will be riding it on the road. We have a tremendous riding area along the side of one of our major roads in this area. The paved bike trail probably stretches 10 miles.
Did you run or do it on your bike Jeff? HR 175 for an hour is pretty amazing, exspecially for an old fart like you. (-: So what was your result in the lactose test?
I'm skeered of getting my HR up that high on the bike. We have hills here to do it, but they make me hurt, just looking at them. I was running. Not sure what you're asking me, Chris. I'm still new at this. But, the guys who advised me said I could do a 30min test or an hour test. I'm a glutton for punishment. I had a low HR of 162 (in my 2nd lap) and a high of 187 (in my next to last lap). Avg. for the workout was the 175.
Duh, ok I mis=read. So your avg heart rate was 175. Thats your LTHR (lacate threshold heart rate). Your a well oiled machine.
I was 3+ min faster for the same dist. last Monday.....and my avg HR was 167 (not pushing it as hard as I was, tonight). Go figure.
Well im not a cardio miser much anymore (I need to start it again in moderation) but im just about to finish up a Dip bar that attaches to one of the support poles im my basement Gym. It can be flipped up and pined in place so as no one cloth lines them selfs when its not in use. Dips are great for Triceps IF your shoulders can handle them. Just added a Trap shrug bar the other day also.
Blood, if you want to try something that you can add easily to your home gym, look up TRX straps. I have a pair, I take with me when I travel - they come with a DVD, book etc to show you the workouts. If you really put the effort into them, they can be a killer work out. I find I am more worn out with them then with my usual weight/circuit work out.
Cool, just googled it. It looks like it would have its place just a little to pricey for me but nice. looks like a good workout per the video. http://www.fitnessanywhere.com/Merc...f35614d0e3e4&gclid=CJOAppSs1KMCFeh25QodwUhIwA
get those guns ready for the gun show crick! I need to work on mine as well...I feel like a weak young fart!
Well I usually do my barefoot runs along a trail near a river, so the trail is mostly sandy and soft, so it's really easy on my feet. Last year I ran a local 5k race, and my Mom happened to be running it as well, after I finished, I decided to re-run the course barefoot to catch up with my Mom. It was an all asphalt course in July. It wasn't the best decision of my life because at that time I just really started to incorporate barefoot runs into my weekly schedule and hadn't ran more than 1 mile barefoot. I couldn't walk the rest of the day after that. You never know how many muscles are in your feet until you do a long barefoot run. You will get introduced to them real quick.
I'm going to look at this bike tomorrow. Its a Motobecane 500HT and the guy is asking $200 for it. Supposedly in pretty good shape. If I buy it, I'll have some to contribute to this thread.
