Haha yeah it isn't as enjoyable as being outside but the harsh MN weather we can have and living in a big city kinda sucks for running outside. After a few months I got used to it. Music cranked and a brief stop in between to stretch makes it go pretty smoothly.
Imo running is a waste of time. I get a much better workout and burn more calories doing interval training and high weight resistance training through power movements. I dropped from 236 lbs. to 190 lbs. 8 % body fat in 4 months by doing nothing but power lifts and HIT intervals. It all boils down to personal goals though. Running is just boring and takes too much time for me.
I also prefer HIIT over long distance running. Something is concerning me though... I ran all last week with no issues, muscles were a little sore but nothing major. This week I've got pains on my left inside hip and my right knee. The hip doesn't bother me much, but my knee kills. Even after I'm done running. The pain feels like it is coming from the front left of my knee cap and I have no idea what it is (I've never had pain in this area before). I've actually has to use the elliptical the last few days because it's so uncomfortable. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Or what it is? Assuming it's just from impact stress of running on the treadmill at 10 speed every day?
Did a workout at the fire station today. Got a new piece (the blast mask ) to make it more realistic. That red piece on the mask simulates working on air. Starting to get into a better routine of working out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are the roots of the bluestem grasses that the frost pushes up in swampy areas. they stick up 6-12 inches
I hear a lot of people say they wish they were at their high school weight but when I was in high school I was 5'6" and 212lbs. I would hate to be back at my high school weight because now I'm 5'8" and 157lbs but I need to build up my muscle. My arms are like pencils but my legs are pretty good.
I see your point but I was in pretty good shape in high school playing sports. I also set a school record in bench press for my weight class. I actually have more upper body muscle now than i did then. But I've definitely lost muscle in my lower body which is something I'm working on.
Met my lunge goal. Now I've set, two, two month goals. First one is to do 20 pull ups. Second is to do 30 pushups with 100 lbs on my back. Lots of work to be done but I'll get there.
Good for you Brett. I also started doing lunges, push-ups and pull-ups (and a few other things) 3 months ago. I still have room to improve in all those areas but making progress.
I have started training for a Natural Bodybuilding show again. It is in July 2016. I last competed in 2003. I competed in Lt. Heavy Weight at 187 lbs. I am current 225. I have 3.5 months to hit that weight. Doing on 100 carbs a day and 60 minutes of cardio 5 days a week for 2 weeks to jump start my metabolism. Last time I competed I lost 40 lbs in 3 months. Looking to do nearly the same this time. Starting a new job on 4/4/16 and I hope my schedule allows for me to travel to compete in it.
Good luck with that, I was never very good with pull ups. I need to be in better overall shape for myself and others that I respond to. A big thing is the CPAT though. Its 8 different tasks and you wear an extra 50 pound vest the whole time then for the stair stepper you wear a total of 75 pounds for 3 minutes at 60 steps a minute. Its brutal lol
Been hitting the gym Monday-Friday last 2 weeks... 30 minutes on the elliptical (treadmill killed my knee) and on a lifting schedule. I've somehow managed to lose 8lbs the last 2 weeks. It's really amazing what just 2 weeks in the gym and a strict healthy diet will do for you... I feel absolutely great. Have a goal to lose 15 lbs total by the time my Mexico trip is here (April 27th).
Started jogging again on monday after taking off for two weeks when we wentt on vacation. This morning I did a mile in 5 minutes 51 seconds. Also started doing more push-ups and pull-ups.I can currently do about 30 pushups before I start getting red in face. And about 8 pullups before getting red in the face. My goal is to be able to do 100 pushups and 20 pullups by the end of May,and be able to do a mile in under 5 minutes. Hopefully posting about it on here will make me stick to it more.
Good stuff guys! All of you guys sound like you are working out hard, it is the best medicine I know. About 2 months I made a commitment to increase my leg strength because I had been babying my knee because it has been so sore and the result was my legs were weak. Lunges, deadlifts, powercleans....I definitely feel much stronger. Only thing I eliminated was running on the pavement. My knee will not tolerate that at all. Lets keep it going gentlemen.
