I've got a little ITBS injury coming on (I think). I'm gonna have to do more biking and swimming in the next 2 weeks.....and lay off the pavement, running. No biggie....and in the end, it'll probably be a good thing. Glad to hear you and the bike are relatively OK, buddy. Hopefully, I'll get 80mi. in next week. I did my 2nd ever open water swim, today, in one of the area lakes. I LOVE the open water. The pool? Not so much. I've got a LONG ways to go to get to 1.2mi. by April, though.
OHHHH When I would go for a barefoot run, when finished my legs would be more tired, compared to a shoe run of equal difficulty and the next day my lower legs were beat. I could not run the day after (even in shoes the 2nd day). But now the day after a BF run, my legs don’t feel tired & beat up. Although I haven’t done so yet, judging by feel, I could probably run the next day without issue. My overall running hasn't gone too much up or down, I just swapped out one run/week as a barefoot run.
I experienced the same thing. My calves are like steel now. I've got to where I run barefoot or with my Vibrams on every run except for 8+ miles.
Interesting (admittedly). You're right, Hook.....it's a topic that will likely forever be debated. I'm just trying to understand it.....and the reasons why people choose minimalist shoes over others. Thanks, you two...
HA! Maybe I'm NOT a heel striker! I just got this sent to me from my last tri. (just kidding) This is obviously an optical illusion.
I've tried running in regular trainer shoes before. I bought a pair of the Asic Nimbus 12s because of all the rave reviews. I ran in them one time and it felt like I was running in sand. Just no type of response whatsoever. I've never liked heavy, cushy shoes. Even when I played basketball, I would never wear the heavy basketball shoes, but usually cross trainer type shoes. Just a personal preference of mine. I like light feet.
I have been concentrating on my running and core work lately. Been slacking a bit on my push-ups and stuff. I got burned out on my upper body stuff a few weeks ago and I had to change up my routine. I hit 57 push-ups in a row tonight and I am not even concentrating on the push-ups too hard. I think I can make a push to 65 within the next 5-6 weeks.
If you want to change it up, try some putting your feet up on a chair or bench or exercise ball. You can also do some with you feet against a wall up off the ground. Adds a new twist for sure.
Rybo I will give it a go in a couple of days. I am all ears on the push-up stuff. I would really like to be able to do 75 push-ups by Jan 1, 2011.
First day back to running post major auto accident: 3.02 miles @ 34:24 About 8 minutes off my usual time. Time isn't the concern right now though. My neck was starting to stiffen up at about 2 miles so will see how I do rest of the day.
GOOD work xforce! Relax and take it slow. I was down to 210 lbs this morning. 3 more pounds to go to hit the 20 pound weight loss mark. I was 227 lbs just 20 months ago.
Another update...I'm still only getting no more then 4 days a week in for working out (because of hunting on the weekends now). Trying to get cardio in every morning before work though. Still losing weight. Hit 180.8 on the scale this morning, which puts me .8 lbs from my goal of 180. I started at 233.4 on 4/19/10, so I'm down a 52.6lbs total in just over 6 months. I think I may push a little further south and shoot for 175 before Thanksgiving.
Congrats on the weight loss guys! During my time off, I gained a lot of unwanted fat. So, I'm on a program now to transform myself and prepare for next season's races. I just need to remember to slow down and go as I feel vs my usual "full steam ahead" approach. Not that I get injured. But, coming back from this one is taking some time and I need to keep my patience while focusing on the long term goals.
I hit 207 this morning. I have now officially lost 20 pounds in about as many months. I would love to get down to 200 by the start of the new year but I am not sure I can lose more than about 1-2 pounds a month.
So I've decided to break from the "not running in any races until after deer season" idea. I've decided I'm going to do a 10k trail run on Dec. 18. My goal is to complete the race in 80 min.
